I hope it means the former guy was just quiet about his work. It was meant to talk about how much better the new guy is, but it made me feel worse about the last guy.

For real? For those dumb new games only or for the entire tournament?

I never noticed there were no alcohol commercials, but, hey, they could have added them under the previous set-up. Sounds like they needed some way to show a profit (however deceptive) to justify their bad (altogether predictable) decision to expand yet again.

iirc, the outlines were imposed on us because our rivals complained to the networks that they had great difficulty reading our orange numbers in game film, so the networks pretended they couldn't read them either. I don't recall not being able to read them, anymore than John Ward's spotters did. Someone correct me, if this is not right.

Reading the pure orange numerals doesn't seem to be a problem now – whether that is due to better cameras (and binoculars?) or a rare and unexplained instance of truth-telling, IDK.

I prefer the pure orange, but I am not going to freak if the outlines come back.

Yes that was the reason for the outlines. And I agree that the need isn’t there anymore with HD cameras.

But nostalgia runs strong for me.

According to the VN Metallurgy Forum (i.e., Sally): a typical aluminum (alloy) baseball bat used in college/high school weighs about 31–34 ounces. An osmium bat would weigh about 7.3 to 8.9 pounds. Effects on a batter’s swing:
  • Swing speed: drastically reduced — inertia makes accelerating the bat/meeting the ball nearly impossible; swing would be much slower and shorter.
  • Timing and mechanics: batter would likely choke up, shorten swing, and use body (shoulders/torso) rather than wrists/forearms; normal quick hip-rotation timing breaks down.
  • Required strength: force to accelerate scales with mass – would need ~26–30× more force to reach same speed – unrealistic for typical athletes.
  • Contact outcome: with same bat speed contact would be virtually immovable — the ball would barely change velocity; the ball would likely dead stop or tiny bounce; bat could crumple or transfer force to batter’s hands/arms.
  • Injury risk: much higher — strained muscles, joint injury, severe hand/wrist impact from reaction forces; bat could slip or break, causing injury.

On Bama's "social promotion" to the playoffs last year, Paul's line was basically Bama's line. The "bad loss" to Florida State didn't count because it was early, the "bad loss" in the SEC Championship Game didn't count because it was late, and the loss to Oklahoma alas did count but it was "luck," so Bama should get a rematch.

I really enjoyed Indiana absolutely beating the snot out of Bama.

I get it. I like the all orange, but a lot of people miss the outlines, I guess. I don't think there was ever any need for them. Not our problem.
