I would agree with this. Anything post Toby Keith (so late 90s-early 00s) isn’t country. It’s auto-tuned pop with country lyrics. Luke Combs is the only modern country star I actually consider country.Imo, the late 80's into the 90s was the last great period of male country. Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, George Strait, Garth Brooks to name a few
if by prime you mean absolute brain rot drivel then yeah.Agree a little but these cats aren’t even close to the same level.
Aldean fell off a cliff. His old stuff (like 10-12 years ago) was pretty good.
Wallen is in his prime right now.
Combs is awesome plus he’s actually really talented and his voice is unique.

“Thank God for 162 games,” Vitello says. “You can revisit me if you like to. But I’ve always felt for football coaches – you prepare all week without sleeping and if you lose one game – and a lot of things can lead to a loss in a football game – it might mean your job, literally. I’ve never worked under those circumstances
Childers, Sturgill, Stapleton, and Isbell put out actual country music with great songwriting. Luke Combs, Zach Bryan, and Zac Brown are talented guys that would qualify. Most other current popular "country" artists are creating what I call "hick-pop". There are a lot of great singer-songwriters hidden away in the Folk, Americana, and Indie genres that are closer to true country artists than folks like Wallen, Aldean, and Luke Bryan. A lot of the songwriting in modern country is so dumbed down and terrible. Is Tyler Childers country?
