'27 TN S Kenneth Simon

Kevin Simon was never going to let his son play Heupel. If you have listened to him on the radio you can tell he’s not a fan of our head coach.

Not really. I like our room now. We will be fine but him choosing bama if he dies makes him a bigger enemy than if he choose any other school. I hate bama and my kids hate bama and no way would I ever see them playing for that crappy University. If Kevin thinks that’s ok, he can go suck off Deboard.

It would be awful. Losing a high ranked, highly valued by the staff, legacy player to our arch nemesis would be absolutely awful. Especially when that arch nemesis isn’t even that good anymore. Cant wait to see them drop some games this season.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Let Kevin consider the reality of being a pariah in the one place that really still remembers and appreciates him.

There are more than one ways to skin a cat, esp at his position. The wider concern for me is, if Tae Walden is a WR (not 100% buying that), that’s our top two defensive targets— Dobson and Simon, along with Chandler— trending away. This with a shiny new defensive staff. Not encouraging. But it’s early yet. There was full fledged panic in June last year.

defensive staff may just not be used to SEC cruiting. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ who knows. so far not encouraged on the recruiting front.

hard to complain after the hs class. thought the porthole class was above average. not great, but good.

it is possible this hs class just isn't deep. it's also possible, and also more probable that other teams are coveting the same few high level players, and are willing to over pay.

But your point still has merit. Cant just sit on campus and hope to close them when visiting.

DeBoer is going to be on the hot seat every year he doesn't get a buy in the playoffs. Sign me up for that... Not playing for Heupel over DeBoer doesn't make sense. Georgia and Ohio St make sense as far as DB development. Bama doesn't make sense. It isn't Saban down there anymore.

I know most won’t see it this way, but I think our staff does. Not aimed at you and speaking in general, but Who gives a rip about high school recruiting (other than QB)? Half the class will end up transferred in two years and it’s a waste of time and $. It’s really ALL about the portal with the exceptions of the super elite talents, and even then, half of those are entitled and not worth it.

I want Kevin Simon’s son in orange, but there’s still a solid chance he will end up in Orange anyways.

It is actually hurting high schoolers a lot, but no one cares if you’re not elite other than the mid majors. It is really not worth it to recruit high school anymore.

Is Simon really a top-2 defensive target?

Commits to Alabama to get a bigger paycheck from Tennessee, then flips to/signs with Tennessee. That's how this feels to me. Don't let Tennessee think we can lowball him because he's a legacy.

I agree for the most part. We may find out as the cycle moves along that the staff is more portal focused, at least this year after taking a large HS class the year before.

HS recruiting will continue to be a fundamental part of roster building tho, and to write it off completely would be reckless.

It was my view that in this mercenary era, finding kids with some built-in loyalty, especially ones who also happen to be blue chip, would become even more valuable. But again there is more than one route to our goals.

He‘s top 3 on the defensive board pretty much any way you slice it. If we flip Sanders and sign Geathers, or something similar, wouldn’t be too worried about it. I think Peace is a little under ranked too.

These days I can’t get too wound up about high school recruits one way or the other. IMO, we’ve been signing too many the past few years as it is.

If Simon goes elsewhere there’s about an 75-80% chance he’ll be moving on within two years anyway.

Wish we could go back to the time when kids were actually interested in legacy and not just a paycheck

Yeah recruiting kind of sucks anymore. The portal is cool but it sucks the life out of recruiting.
