Crossing the Taiwan strait would take roughly 6 hours, the closest US carrier group is Yokosuka, Japan, or patrolling the Philippine Sea.

Taiwan only has 160,000 full time military personnel across all branches, and conscripts who server a mandatory 1-year of service. Furthermore, Taiwan hasn't participated in any significant military engagement since the end of the Chinese civil war.

The Chinese have the types of amphibious landing ships required to execute a successful invasion of Taiwan.

They do not have them in the numbers required (yet) to execute a successful invasion of Taiwan.

If they invade any time in the next few years, a significant portion of the troops will be on civilian ferries.
