2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

It may be recency bias, but I don't feel like we've ever really had length at PG under Barnes.

Kevin Punter Jr...but that was inherited. Then Turner's senior season when he got hurt was kind of having to play Santi/Bowden at point...

Then covid season...Bailey, Springer, Keon, Santi were kind of rotating the point and all of them 6'3" or taller...

I guess I don't get why my opinion is being challenge when Mookie's wasn't lol

If you wanna wait and see that's fine. But Mookie who I was replying to made a spot for spot...I offered my changes.

Ja'Kobi and Nate are the only 2 on this year's roster I don't think we've replaced with one player directly. I think Haralson is better than JP though and I think Rubin will be as productive as Felix. The rest I agreed with.

Hill played in the same Big Pumpkin Conference as Hill and no one seems to be dragging him over it.
Look at results against P4 competition. Rubin has none. Hill handled himself really well in those games. Context matters.

Turner had a great final year. Just over 7 AST/game IIRC. Was under 3 the previous years.

I'd say Vescovi fits the "height" measurement for a "PG", but he never averaged over 3.7 AST/game (and that was his first year).

I guess right now sans Juke, I would take this year’s “best 5” over the portal class we have.

Gillespie over Hill
Ames over Boswell
Ament over Lundblade
Estrella = Haralson
Okpara over Rubin

I think where the potential for the 2026-2027 team comes in is if we can stack enough depth. This past year we had shockingly little quality depth after pre-season discussions have the team being generally thought of one of our deeper rosters. We found out that was wrong.

We lack star power with this portal class but if we can bring in 3 contributors with these last spots then overall the team could be better. Remains to be seen.
Obviously we aren’t done, but my take on 5/5…

Gillespie = Hill
Boswell < Lundblade
Ament < Ames
Estrella < Haralson
Okpara > Rubin

If you look at both guys stats prior to coming to Tennessee Hill & Gillespie are quite similar, Hill has a bit more efficient scoring punch, Gillespie a bit better facilitator.

Lundblade should be better than Boswell.

Ames vs. Ament…sure, Ament is a lottery pick, but we’re talking about the 1 season to CBB at Tennessee. Ames has shown an ability to score at a consistent level that Ament wasn’t able to show in his 1 year.

Haralson vs. Estrella…again, we’re talking for the 1 year, maybe Estrella kills it at Michigan, potential is there, but what we got from Estrella as a 3rd year player wasn’t close to what Haralson gave ND as a freshman.

Okpara vs. Rubin (or Brown)…offensively I don’t think you see much difference, but defensively, especially from a perimeter defense standpoint, Okpara was elite and I don’t know that I can assume anyone can do that until seeing it.

Really? I thought it was every 4 years? Wasn’t our last one 3 years ago as of this summer?
They changed the rule recently, you can every year if you want to now…but the thought is with schools cutting costs at every turn to build rosters these multi million dollar trips likely aren’t gonna be common.

Reactions: Orange.

What control does Rubin have for Loyola's scheduling though? Lundblade & Belmont also didn't play any P4 competition.

Rubin has a great motor, great size, and is an absolute machine on defense...A-10 is a good conference, they were 6th best in winning % with only the MM conferences ahead of them.

Hot take, for sure.

I saw your explanation. Not sure I agree as I think a healthy Ament with an offseason in the S&C program takes a giant leap, but its an interesting discussion.

In shoes, maybe. Around 6’1 walking around without. Watching he and Garland go at it in HS packed the gyms.
Well, I can’t say I’ve asked bone or punter to stand beside me naked footed. But whatever, argue with yourself I guess.

I think he’s comparing what we got from Ament last year to what he anticipates we get from Ames this year, which is fair since it’s a Last Year versus Next Year discussion, but I’m still not sure I agree on that comparison.

There was a 3-4 week period in the middle of SEC play where Ament, when healthy, was playing like a Top 5 pick. I think we’d be lucky to get that from Ames next year.

Uhh...he got hurt in the 11th game and retired from basketball because of it, but yeah I actually think that's a big "what if" situation. Team finished 17-14 and only had 3 losses with Turner running the Point.
