Siphoning back some of that JMI money. As a Kentucky resident, I typically don't lend an ear to anything our current bozo governor has to say. However, he just ripped the decision-makers at UK and the creation of this golden parachute position for outgoing AD, Mitchell Barhart, that pays him $1 million/yr and has no defined job description. He basically urged and encouraged faculty, students, and community members to attend the upcoming board meeting and ask tough questions.
I saw that. It was amazing, and I’m like you. Not a big fan of Covid-Andy, so when he calls you out it’s got to be bad.As a Kentucky resident, I typically don't lend an ear to anything our current bozo governor has to say. And all built off an illegal monopoly (Sherman Antirust Act anyone?) and criminal enterprise which grew unabated for many decades resulting in a 9-0 SCOTUS slapdown in NCAA vs. Alston.College athletics is such a major racketeering scheme, we should all frankly be ashamed for even supporting it in the first place.
I’ll break it down oversimplified
Step 1 - be a college administrator
Step 2 - generate $150M in revenue via your athletics department
Step 3 - spend all that money on construction projects with companies you have a hidden financial Interest with
Step 4 - profit
Bonus step 5: claim your athletics department doesn’t make any money
Athletic departments are not for profit enterprises. No real stakeholders. Sure, they make a bunch of money, but they mostly have to spend the money. Just balance the budget.College athletics is such a major racketeering scheme, we should all frankly be ashamed for even supporting it in the first place.

Yea, but “profit” is not being distributed anywhere. They have to spend. They will have reserves, but they don’t keep large amounts. Everyone always wants to raise more so that they can spend more and get ahead of the game.
I kind of knew what you were referring to, but it’s not always the case. Danny White is getting rewarded because the AD is literally making the most money it’s ever made and successful. I can’t speak on what UK is doing. But AD’s get fired all of the time, too for not being competent. Some are run efficiently, and some are not, just like every other entity.Clearly, something I said is confusing. Must be my fault for not being more explicit somehow.
I’m aware profit isn’t distributed. That’s why I explained how administrators personally enrich themselves is by having hidden interest in the places they spend the money.
Fwiw, Bevin's arrogance and smugness warmed no one's heart, and you don't get re-elected trying to steal the pension from teachers who receive no social security. To his credit, he recognized a broken system that would eventually bankrupt the state, but his original approach was too heavy-handed.Dang Andy catching strays sucks. He's been the best governor in my life time. Super down to earth too. I've ran into him around town and in my office because they moved him down to my building while they remodel the capital building and he's always friendly. I ran into Matt Bevin too several times in my building and that dude was a d-bag. Wasn't surprising though with the way he treated our teachers.
Probably being a bit biased too bc I'm a state employee and he's actually got us raises basically every year, and it's something his dad didn't do and Bevin certainly didn't do.
