2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

This is just me with my own thoughts...I think Tanner has waited to see what the roster is going to look like around him.

They had a very good season, part of that is because 9 seniors. Tyler Harris and Chandler Bing were the only players other than Tanner that played that weren't seniors.

Having Duke Miles as your running mate elevated Vandy and Tanner. Being in their 2nd year together Tanner, Nickel, & McGlockton were a culture core as well. This season is a complete rebuild for Vandy. Losing over 80% of your minutes played is a hard pill to swallow. And if Tanner stays at Vandy his production will take a hit next season.

My thing is this…if he’s really this torn, why not still enter the portal and take a visit to meet with Barnes? If he’s not feeling it or his heart is set with Vandy he can withdraw. I think it’s a no lose situation for him to enter (obv i’m biased and want him here) but he could have 1 on 1 conversations on campus and also bring his family

The short answer is, once you enter the portal regardless of school or how good you are that scholarship spot is no longer guaranteed.

Vandy would be stupid to not let him withdraw, we all agree there. But it would be a very real possibility at that point that he would then have to transfer.

Don’t buy this at all. There’s just zero chance Vandy wouldn’t make the numbers work if their star player wanted to stay.

I haven't shared anything because the people I know who are closest to the situation don't know. I always feel the need to counter a TB post just to ground us in reality. All of the long odds options are still being back-channeled. All of the high odds situations are being worked. All of the backup plans are being worked through too. I just don't want to be on the record with predictions when the people I know who are very inside don't know. The Tanner thing just can't be weighed until the portal closes. There has been ongoing back-channel discussions for the last week. Tanner's agent is going to walk this thing all the way up to the edge whether he enters or not. I can't rate odds, but the clock is the enemy, obviously. His agent's contacted us several times yesterday. You can't call it dead. Hill has no reticence around TT coming, if it happens. We continue to lead for Juke, but Michigan isn't relenting. UNC seems to have finally moved on. If this were over today, he'd be ours. Unfortunately, he's playing through some draft evaluations and that extends the timeline, and leaves us exposed. Everyone still feels like we are ahead, but no one likes the national champion hanging around with a bag. I hate to even bring this one up, but CRB will have a sit-down with Nate and family. I want to be crystal clear that Barnes has never told a kid to come back if he believes the best choice is to move on. The draft consultants that Ament has believe he has a higher chance to ascend against projections than slip. They have said the best guess is he will be 12-14, the floor is 18 and the ceiling could be as high as eighth. That describes a kid that should enter the draft. There is still some question about his physical maturity, and lack of aggression, but it is almost impossible to pass on a kid who is that tall who has those skills. I just can't get hopeful about this. Here is my back the napkin odds list-- Juke 60-75% good guys. Tanner 33% chance he enters, 90% ours if he does. Ament 25% comes back. This would be much closer to zero, but he is having the meeting and his family loves CRB. I would have dumped Tanner's odds over the weekend, but there is continued smoke. We have other plans in motion. This is a great class foundation, and I feel good we'll get to the other side with a roster that can go far. I just don't know exactly how that shakes out. I love pickups so far. These are predominantly very athletic, hoop aggressive players with a solid handle and shooting ability. I think the three H combo would be the most solid diverse portal signees we've ever had, as a group. I love Haralson's fire, and I saw Hill play twice last year. He has a first step that is elite, much more lift than Jakobi, and sees the court two moves ahead. He's going to be very good. Lundblade is a bit of a Hoosier, but a true weapon nonetheless. Barnes did not like the trees in the lane last year. He much prefers mobility and fire in bigs. Felix was a dream player for him. Brown has proven to be a very quick learner and sees the court better than the average big. It's a roster I wouldn't want to play, and we aren't done. I think we'll continue to get clarity in incremental doses. The first shot comes today. Lots of reason to be hopeful about the roster, but we don't know all the parts yet.

Thanks for giving us the real deal. Suffice to say that this is going to be a really, really good basketball team that has a great chance of being elite. Wish camp was starting tomorrow.

Call him.

But once you enter the portal the scholarship is no longer guaranteed, and of all the schools in the SEC that I could see donors/boosters getting butthurt about a player entering Vandy is #1 on that list.

Hasn't that Mickey Rourke faced ghoul screwed over enough people yet?
I’m only expressing my opinion based on personal experience in an internet chat board full of exaggeration and silly claims and my counsel Nighthawk does not endorse this message— he’s one of the most nefarious humans on earth, ranking close to Adelman, Thiel and Altman in his endless well of sociopathic narcissism.

I agree. I think he was waiting to see who Vandy could bring in this offseason to gauge how serious they were about continued success. They've brought in a couple decent players, including a nice piece for their backcourt. I think at the end of the day, the desire to be loyal to the program who gave him a chance will outweigh the obvious advantages of making the switch. I truly believe he was torn though. I also hope I'm wrong, because he would be phenomenal in RB's system and with the players we've brought in.

No words could describe a Tanner type player in Barnes system , to go with this kind of talent all up and down our roster. He comes to Tennessee I will completely loose my mind . Could be one biggest commits In vols sports history …

I agree as well. Also, human nature would dictate (in my experience) that when someone is torn between the decision to keep things the same or make a change, they will usually make the decision to stay where they are. Indecision is not a mover.

I think if Tanner comes here, he has to be convinced that it’s better for him, not just be torn between both situations.

Interesting take. I would disagree with you on Hill. Jakobi looks like a better athlete than Hill on tape. Hill is more crafty than athletic imo.

I don’t know the distinction you’re making, but I’ve seen both guys in games, in person. Hill can stop on a dime and elevate, and get to the hoop past good defenders. My only beef with Gillespie is that his handle wasn’t always equal to his desire to improvise. Overall I loved him. I don’t think we could’ve found anyone better to replace ZZ while being a regular scoring threat too. Just like Hill a lot too, and find his lift, release, handle to be exceptional.

I think Tanner is afraid of the harassment he will get from all the vandy fans and most people in Nashville surrounding area .
😂 😂 😂

Outside of the 2k - 3k blocks of West End & 21st, he'll get 10 high fives from UT fans for every one stern look he gets from a Peabody fan. They can't fill Memorial Gym, much less Nashville.

In the last week, Harris’ list of schools has been whittled down to Michigan, North Carolina and Tennessee. But sources tell On3 that Harris has not informed schools of any timeline for a decision as he continues to go through the NBA draft process. After speaking with sources at each school in the last day, here is the latest intel On3 has gathered on Harris’ recruitment. North Carolina remains in the mix for the Wake Forest transfer, but the Tar Heels likely have a cutoff date for how long they will wait on a decision. With a need at wing, they don’t want to miss out on NC State’s Paul McNeil or Matt Able just to lose out on Harris. The communication continues between Tennessee and Harris. There’s some familiarity between Harris’ family and Rick Barnes’ staff from when the Volunteers recruited him out of high school. Those connections have helped the Vols emerge as one of the top options for the transfer and gave them confidence last week. Tennessee has also mostly constructed its roster to this point, now waiting on NBA decisions from Harris and Nate Ament. That has set Tennessee up well not to have to move on from Harris before he’s ready to make a final decision. Sources at Michigan have told On3 that Harris remains a target for the Wolverines. One source mentioned it feels like they are still bidding for the Wake Forest transfer. On3 has also been able to confirm that Harris and Michigan head coach Dusty May were in Los Angeles at the same time last week; sources were not able to provide final confirmation that they met in person, but it has been highly speculated.

Nakos on Juke

Hill got more hops… you ever watch him
Explode to the goal…
Admittedly I only saw highlights but he didn’t strike me as a great athlete.

Most all his scoring moves are from setting people up based on his feel for the game and terrific handles and footwork rather than blowing by them to the rim. Didn’t see any explosive rim attacks on his tape.

Jakobi took more shots near the rim. He had his fair share of explosive finishes on dunks or finishing through contact mid air.. Hill shoots a higher percentage of 3 pointers and has a slighter frame.

He’s taller and has a longer reach/wingspan
