2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

Maybe, not likely, but maybe, Ament looks at the roster being put together and thinks to himself, "that looks like fun", and decides to come back for one more year.

To me, it might be as much about whether Nate just genuinely enjoyed it here and would like another year of it, especially as part of a loaded team, as it is the financial aspect. He comes from a great family that clearly valued education and the work Barnes did with Nate, so there might be more to this than pure dollars.

Or it might simply come down to which decision has the most financial upside. I guess we'll find out soon enough, but I still believe it's 80-20 he enters the draft.

Ament going pro AND being a lottery pick is a bigger feather in the cap for Vols than him returning.

I've thought for awhile that Juke would drag out, why that first crystal ball to Michigan didn't worry me. Juke is in a similar situation to Nate...his size and production is good enough to get him drafted now. The only difference is Juke wasn't a top 5 HS player and is a year older...he absolutely can improve his stock with another year in college, especially at Michigan or TN. The argument for Nate is basically "you'd be higher in a weaker draft class" and everyone knew this class was going to be deep...it's one reason Flagg reclassified to avoid being in it.

Also, my philosophy is you take every PG you can.

I’m not worried about Michigan and I agree that money isn’t everything in this recruitment. I was just passing along the info.

Oh, and you’re not the boss of me so don’t tell me what to do 🤪
No one bossing anyone. Just tired of everyone flexing like Michigan can just get whatever. Their payroll is already at 20 million so thsy don’t have more make than Vols left.

Exactly Michigan bout end of budget , they can’t do much more . They spend tons of their money on football .

I have a question and I understand if you don’t know the answer:

Do you get the impression that Tanner‘s agent is acting on his own, or do you think Tanner is actually listening? Obviously, his agent would be motivated by the huge payday. I’m starting to get the impression that Tanner has no intention of entering the portal but is still fine hearing the pitch just in case.
I’m not a sports agent psychologist. I’m some knucklehead with an ex-roommate who is a top professional services provider (his words) to the collective and various coaches. No one knows what’s inside the head of these kids or what the conversations are. The boiled down version we hear is that Tanner, mom and agents think he can accel here. The kid has connections to his current team and loyalty to them, coach and school. His dad is passionate that he should stay because Vandy went out on a limb for him, and because of the academic reputation. The openness for dad to back down has progressed. His agents want him at UT. Will it be enough, will it be in time? No one knows. We’ll know today. I do NOT get the feeling that Tanner, agents or anyone are “playing” us. It’s a hard decision. He’s torn.

Also...the portal closing isn't an end to the madness.

Right now On3 has 1270 players in the portal, 419 committed and 2 have withdrawn

That means over 65% of the portal is still available and not currently on a team. As others have pointed out coaching changes = new portal window for that team, if a student graduates next month he can then enter the portal as a graduate transfer too outside the regular portal. Also schools have a strict 2 business day window to enter any athlete that request. Which means the window closes today, but names will still show up entering until Thursday.

I think Tanner is afraid of the harassment he will get from all the vandy fans and most people in Nashville surrounding area .

I get it, but notice that I just passed along info. I didn’t state my opinion and I didn’t “flex Michigan”. I think we get him, no matter what Michigan does. Your comment just seemed a little snippy and undeserved, that’s all.

I haven't shared anything because the people I know who are closest to the situation don't know. I always feel the need to counter a TB post just to ground us in reality. All of the long odds options are still being back-channeled. All of the high odds situations are being worked. All of the backup plans are being worked through too. I just don't want to be on the record with predictions when the people I know who are very inside don't know. The Tanner thing just can't be weighed until the portal closes. There has been ongoing back-channel discussions for the last week. Tanner's agent is going to walk this thing all the way up to the edge whether he enters or not. I can't rate odds, but the clock is the enemy, obviously. His agent's contacted us several times yesterday. You can't call it dead. Hill has no reticence around TT coming, if it happens. We continue to lead for Juke, but Michigan isn't relenting. UNC seems to have finally moved on. If this were over today, he'd be ours. Unfortunately, he's playing through some draft evaluations and that extends the timeline, and leaves us exposed. Everyone still feels like we are ahead, but no one likes the national champion hanging around with a bag. I hate to even bring this one up, but CRB will have a sit-down with Nate and family. I want to be crystal clear that Barnes has never told a kid to come back if he believes the best choice is to move on. The draft consultants that Ament has believe he has a higher chance to ascend against projections than slip. They have said the best guess is he will be 12-14, the floor is 18 and the ceiling could be as high as eighth. That describes a kid that should enter the draft. There is still some question about his physical maturity, and lack of aggression, but it is almost impossible to pass on a kid who is that tall who has those skills. I just can't get hopeful about this. Here is my back the napkin odds list-- Juke 60-75% good guys. Tanner 33% chance he enters, 90% ours if he does. Ament 25% comes back. This would be much closer to zero, but he is having the meeting and his family loves CRB. I would have dumped Tanner's odds over the weekend, but there is continued smoke. We have other plans in motion. This is a great class foundation, and I feel good we'll get to the other side with a roster that can go far. I just don't know exactly how that shakes out. I love pickups so far. These are predominantly very athletic, hoop aggressive players with a solid handle and shooting ability. I think the three H combo would be the most solid diverse portal signees we've ever had, as a group. I love Haralson's fire, and I saw Hill play twice last year. He has a first step that is elite, much more lift than Jakobi, and sees the court two moves ahead. He's going to be very good. Lundblade is a bit of a Hoosier, but a true weapon nonetheless. Barnes did not like the trees in the lane last year. He much prefers mobility and fire in bigs. Felix was a dream player for him. Brown has proven to be a very quick learner and sees the court better than the average big. It's a roster I wouldn't want to play, and we aren't done. I think we'll continue to get clarity in incremental doses. The first shot comes today. Lots of reason to be hopeful about the roster, but we don't know all the parts yet.
Thanks for sharing but TB’s sources have been all over this. Not a thing he’s said that conflicts. The only difference is he’s never, not once, had Tanner’s name come out of his lips.

Probably so but reality is everyone realizes it's all biz now and stone-cold truth is Tanner has the oppy to be developed by a HOF coach to better prepare him for the NBA while also playing for a much better team which should get him big game experience in the tournaments.

I'd say there are also people tired of you making absolute statements presented as fact when you haven't proven to be any more in the know than the average Joe. Nearly everything you say is presented like its the stone cold truth when in reality you're just wish casting your hopes. So your overly hopeful outlook is simply the inverse of someone else's overly reluctant outlook.

Thanks for the response. I didn’t expect you to give a hard answer, but I do appreciate your feel for things, knucklehead or not.

Same poster who claimed May missed out on his priority bigs so he took JP (and essentially overpaid) when there were "10-15 better players on the board"...lol

That isn't some badge of honor, though.
Everyone knows who he's talking about, he knows and openly admits that everyone knows who he's talking about, and he even let the name out in some Freudian slip that he had to try and backtrack and sell as meaning to say "Tyler Lundblade" on air one day last week.

Basilio is just doing it now because he knows it annoys people and he likes to be polarizing and annoying.

My thing is this…if he’s really this torn, why not still enter the portal and take a visit to meet with Barnes? If he’s not feeling it or his heart is set with Vandy he can withdraw. I think it’s a no lose situation for him to enter (obv i’m biased and want him here) but he could have 1 on 1 conversations on campus and also bring his family
