The Official Ole Miss @ Tennessee Series Thread (Fri. April 17 6:30PM ET) (Sat. April 18 4PM ET) (Sun 1PM ET) (All Games SECN+)

Yes he is the same hitting coach we’ve had for 8 years so did he just forget how to coach , is it talent or just bad analytical data the guys are getting
If baseball were that simple engineers and scientists would quit their boring jobs (I have one fyi not trying to hate on STEM) and become millionaire head coaches.

Vitello is a great motivator. He carries an aura with him that’s rare. His confidence is infectious and if you aren’t a confident baseball player you’re a bad baseball player. The guys in this team feel like losers. You can see it on their face. The only reason we are as good as we are is because they are talented. They would perform better if they had a head coach with some fight and maybe even a little swagger.

That’s a pretty lazy take. You don’t get to where this team is by being “losers”—talent alone doesn’t win at this level. We’ve had leads in every SEC game we’ve played until today. The teams of yesteryear spoiled this fanbase and conditioned them to believe that anything less than 50 wins a year is a “bad” team. Btw, aura doesn’t win titles. If it did, our trophy case would’ve had 4 or 5 of them in the Vitello era.

I think everyone who knows realized the pitching was in Ole Miss’ favor. They have a pretty loaded staff, but Kuhns pitched a great ball game. Appy pitched well, the dam broke.

Timely hitting has been an issue. To a certain degree it was just one of those days. However, the body language concerns me more than the outcome.

Here’s to showing up with some fight tomorrow!

GBO!!!
Appy had a tough game. Starting the inning with back to back walks isn’t good. Then a WP. Cant get critical of him. Hell he’s carried them the last several weeks.

These same guys lost 5 of 6 SEC series last year with Mr Confidence standing over there.

The talent wasn’t there then & isn’t now.

Yeah, I’m kinda at the point where CJE is in his post game. Just have fun. Stop thinking about it and just play the game you’ve been playing since you were a kid. Do your job, have fun with it, the pressure is real, I get it, but it’s not the end of the world.

Nobody likes to learn the hard way, but sometimes it’s necessary.

If my math is correct, Tennessee has won one SEC series in the last calendar year (March, 2025) and that was against an unserious Missouri program.

Also, since April 18, 2025 (one year ago today), Tennessee is 11-20 in SEC regular season games.

As I’ve previously stated, the day Tony Vitello left the swagger of Tennessee baseball left with him. It’s obvious IMO.

If you watch Tennessee baseball for a month without commentary you would not know who the HC is except that he’s the one who takes pitchers out. That’s the only tell. Not a fighter. Not a leader in the context of SEC baseball
you forget he likes to scratch his balls on camera a lot. he must be dealing with crabs and doesnt want to give it to the umps

Bro just casually skipped a series sweep against a top 10 SEC team…. Checks notes…. Last weekend.

Talent ?? If the season ended today we might have one honorable mention all SEC player in Appenzeller , that’s way below the last 5+ years around here
Y’all have talent without question. Are there a couple misses? Sure. That happens to every team, but the talent is still there. Now, why aren’t they producing? That’s the million dollar question. Maybe they aren’t being developed properly, or more likely just not as quickly as you’d hope for. New HC, and many playing together for the first time this season. I’m not sure who your portal players are, but if they came from a mid major, they’re seeing a completely differently level of consistent pitching than they’re use to. And sometimes, that takes more than a season to get up to speed. And most importantly, it’s damn hard to find 3 great starters, a handful of really good long relievers, and a couple closers. That’s where you really wanna see the most development as the season progresses.

I don’t know. There’s a long list of things that can go wrong. But, y’all have shown that the talent is there, and you can play with anyone when it is clicking. Just have to find a way to do it consistently.
