My dad used to do that to me when I was a kid. I felt like I was doing a lot just by casting and reeling in. I was on a rattle-trap for a good while,My son was the same way at that age and up until a couple years ago. I think hunting helped with his patience a ton. What worked for us was putting a crankbait or a rooster tail on for him and let him just crank away. It kept him a little more focused and bought me some time to fish too. You'd be surprised how long they will actually just cast and crank.........Zebco 33 and a rooster tail works great.
Too hard to envision. What’s the final look?Hear me out:
Dallas to Big Sky
Kansas City to "Midwest" (GL West)
Indianapolis and Cincinnati to Mideast (GL East)
Pittsburgh and Philly to Mid-Atlantic
Buffalo to Northeast
Nashville and Carolina to "Midsouth" (Atlantic)
Tampa Bay and Miami to South
No further edits.

A float and a tube of crickets would keep you both entertainedI’m still inching to take my four old grandson fishing. His dad took him out last year and being his age and high energy, he didn’t quite have the focus and patience to sit on a bank, dip your line in the water, enjoy the quiet and be patient. He’s not there yet, even when gamma is itching to take that boy fishing. My 18 granddaughter, not so much. Though, it’s a work in progress.
