2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

Generally speaking.
Nothing that’s not really been said…

-Haralson on campus and trending, could doo that one popping today.

-Chris Washington Jr. on campus and trending, announcing tomorrow.

-All eyes on Terrence Hill Jr. this AM, supposed to fly out and arrive in Knoxville sometime this morning, if he makes it in gotta like our chances.

-A little unclear about that mystery PG and Friday visit, I think it’s still scheduled, but what happens if Hill commits? Do they sell him on PG role potentially, does that impact said visit, unclear on that part currently.

If you can land those 3 by Friday/Saturday you’re sitting pretty, kinda reevaluate roster/board/needs again and schedule you a few more visits.

If we land those 3, then add Harris, I don’t care who else we get. Maybe just another body for depth in the frontcourt?

Guys, if we don’t get a commit today(or if we actually get that super team we’ve been teased with ) there is a high probability that I have a cardiac event or some kind of head explosion. Trippie is my power of attorney, and has been instructed to use my excessive wealth that I leave behind on getting Tanner. Services will be held at Dead End BBQ, and Sterling Henton will be reading my favorite poems. Rapper Andy has been asked to write and perform a tribute, and Danny White will be charging a “grief fee” for those wishing to attend. (My hands were tied on that one)

Unless I’m wrong, going on the numbers of open spots that BTO posted the other day of 5 openings, adding those 3 leaves 2 open spots. Then you are saving a spot for Harris to see what he does limits you to only 1 more spot to play with for either Tanner, another PG, or another body in the front court.

Who are we recruiting to play defense on the perimeter? Are you concerned about that end of the floor at all?

If we land all these guys we may be the best offensive team in the country, but Hill, Ames, Haralson, and Lundblade are all below average to very poor defenders.

Juke is the only guard we are recruiting with an above average defensive rating based on EvanMiya.com and Sports reference defensive ratings.

I just worry we have shifted our philosophy too far in the other direction. Yes we need scorers, but you can’t win a championship without a great defensive team.

This all sounds reasonable.

Lanier and Knecht were also horrible defensively according to EvanMiya, and both were totally fine with Barnes.

EM’s ratings tell you much more about team defense than individual. I’m not worried at all.

I think his point was that they were one-offs surrounded by great defenders (primarily two all-SEC defenders in ZZ and Shack)...they could hide DK and Lanier, if necessary.

His concern, and it's fair, is that now we will have an large portion of the team being below average defenders, especially on the perimeter.

That’s fair.

My point is that I don’t think EM gives you anywhere near enough to say that the guys we’re bringing in are bad perimeter defenders. Those ratings are extremely volatile and team dependent, and frankly I don’t think they tell you much at all.

True, but those guys were also elite athletes. Haralson fits that mold but not the other 3.

Also, they were surrounded by guys like Zeigler and Mashack who were dogs on the perimeter. Not seeing any of that on next years roster.

Sure, I get that. Like I said in the post above, I just don’t think EM ratings tell you enough. Hill and Ames are pretty athletic too.

In fact, by hoop explorer defensive RAPM Hill grades out pretty similarly to Gillespie (pre Tennessee) and Boswell. Ames isn’t far behind. Haralson was pretty good for a freshman. Tanner was better than all of them.

I agree EM ratings are far too heavily weighted based on the success of the team. But all those guys I mentioned were towards the bottom of the list in defensive rating on their respective teams. Particularly Hill and Lundblade.
