There's always the possibility a team gets better week to week. Think we swung and missed in offensive evals (not ironically).Vandy series is what could cost them. That team isn’t good. But you have to move on- if can beat MSU, they can beat the teams left on their schedule.
2 more common calls is Tits (Tufted Titmouse) say "Peter" and Chicks (Carolina Chickadee) say "D..D..D..D..D". I'll let y'all do with that as you willThanks, Rish!
Since we’re big tea drinkers “tea-kettle, tea-kettle, tea-kettle” is perfect.I played the call on the Audubon site and it sounds very familiar. Will listen for them when we get back.
Pitch calling is off as well. Command the zone. It is why Appenzeller is so good with an average speed fast ball that strikes people out. He has great location and changes its speed. Especially when combined with the occasional good breaking pitches and change that are generally located well.Honestly don’t know what it is but this pitching coach just doesn’t have the feel frank had!…frank knew when to pull and he also knew when a mound visit was needed..he was just very in tune with his players mechanics.only time I ever seen him mess up is when he brought rocker in that cost us a world series run..i didn’t like bringing a freshman in there under those circumstances..beyond that dude was a guru.
Using him on Friday could get us an inning on Sunday if absolutely necessary. Don't want to ride the guy's back too much, though. It would do a lot for their confidence if they could win the series. Just don’t have confidence in the bullpen with Appy being used. Don’t have a lot of confidence in Kuhns either.
I dont think its all pitch calls.Pitch calling is off as well. Command the zone. It is why Appenzeller is so good with an average speed fast ball that strikes people out. Example - a pitcher is mowing down guys with the fast ball. PC starts calling off speed stuff repeatedly, pitch after pitch.. Theory is to keep the hitters off balance. Pitcher has less location control, throws lollypops up there down the middle belt high to be blasted for HR's or into the dirt to give up walks. Opponents rally. See performances of Kuhns and Mack for reference. Generally OK for the first time through the order. After that, watch out.
Arvidson is successful when he establishes that wicked slider as his out pitch. Then he can mix a decent fast ball in with the change to keep them off balance. PC went fastball and change with an occasional slider on his calls when BA botched that game up at Candy. Just dumb.
PC does not visit the mound as he should as you posted. Josh needs to make that happen, the buck stops with him.
It is really important to command the zone with the first batter in every inning. Go at them and force them to beat you. Pound the zone. We have been walking and giving up too many hits to first batters by getting behind in the count. It leads to pitching failures and losses.
That is NOT how it is done if you want to win in the SEC if you want to compete at a high level. Frank knew that well. Jury is still out on this guy and Josh needs him to be really good so he can focus on the substandard hitting.
Only took Brown and Ford as transfers on offense. Added Myatt from Juco, which seems to be a toss up these days. Still a relatively young team on experience. There's always the possibility a team gets better week to week. Think we swung and missed in offensive evals (not ironically).
I'm more bullish than others on the pitching. Think its kept us in most all these games, 75th inning of Andy game aside.
Edit: As I type this Hubbs kicks my argument down on the PC. Goodness,
Not all. Agree completely on the hitting. But you said it yourself above. Until/if the hitting improves, the pitching has to be at a higher level to win. Frank had zero use for walks and you would not get the opportunity if you did it. Command the zone.I dont think its all pitch calls.
Ultimately kids have to make the pitches. They are wild, hitting guys and walking. Giving up absolutely worst timed errors, passed balls, and walks. They tried to give that game up last night, fortunately App willed it.
Conversely, we get a diet off fastball, fastball, curveball, slider. Basically we have the non-HR hitting andruw jones end-of-his-career in meat of order.
Last night was THE first time ive seen us take a pitch and go opposite direction, using hands.
I mean, we scored 3 runs off in field hits. It is bad.
Felt it since Kent State, but then verbalized it after Andy. Agree 110%. Was never over the moon about promoting Reynolds. Not all. Agree completely on the hitting. But you said it yourself above. Until/if the hitting improves, the pitching has to be at a higher level to win. Frank had zero use for walks and you would not get the opportunity if you did it. Command the zone.
I think there may need to be coaching staff changes in the offseason. Josh needs the opportunity to adjust after being cast into the job on the fly when Tony bolted the scene.
