2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

So far I have yet to see any serious names that are at least equal replacements to JG, Ament and Okpara.

I mean...how high you rating Okpara?

All 4 of these are top 10 guys in 24/7 & On3 rankings:

Massamba Diop 7’1” 230lbs FR 29.6mpg 13.6ppg 5.8rpg 2.1bpg
Somto Cyril 6’11” 260lbs SO 21.2mpg 9.3ppg 5.4rpg 2.2bpg
Mouhamed Sylla 6’10” 240lbs FR 21.5mpg 9.6ppg 7.2rpg 1.2bpg
Najai Hines 6’10” 265lbs FR 18.0mpg 6.5ppg 5.5rpg 2.2bpg (On3 has 'em as the 4th best PF)

Felix in his class was the 9th rated Center in 247 and 7th rated Center per On3

It’s always going to take longer for the ones interested in the NBA. I think we’d give 2ish weeks to a player like TT or Juke, but we aren’t waiting until they drop after the combine.

I want this guy. Checked out his highlights. Didnt know he played at Kansas State and Virginia. Dude can play PG and we know playing at Virginia he knows how to play defense. A left ball handler that can create his own shot. He is a take for me.
We need a stud point guard. Can’t win it all without one

The guy you're responding to is the same one who called Ament an "unplayable bust"

Need at least one over 7 feet. He also has to be able to block shots without fouling and hit layups- dunks.

Haven’t seen UT seriously connected with Dion or Cyril. Cyril is seemingly down to Arkansas and Miami. WVU is the team to beat for Sylla.

Felt like we had a leg up on JG/ Lanier way before they entered the portal. Doesn’t feel like we have that advantage this year with any elite prospects.
I think our guys are just keeping everything closer to the vest this year than in the past. Just because we aren't hearing about it, doesn't mean it isnt or hasnt been happening.

Personally, Diop and Cyril are the only two I would consider a probable upgrade over Okpara.

Until they're signed elsewhere not sure I'd be too worried about it.

There was a recruiting dead period that just ended today, so anything before now has purely been speculation for non grad transfers.

Barnes isn't going to break any rules. April 10th to 30th is the recruiting period and that'll be when we start seeing names pop up.

It’s wild how people in here create their own expectations of how this should go then get upset bitching and moaning when things aren’t going how they think it should go. There are 7 teams with a commitment and we are ranked first based off that commitment.
Same thing every year. If only 3 straight EE's shows the staff knows a little about how to handle it.

Just depends what you value from an upgrade standpoint. Hines very well could come in and out produce everyone on the list...but he's not as tall or long as Felix and probably sees his blocks per game dip because of it. Diop has all the stars/ratings you could want but he's still raw talent and size...so may not be an instant production guy here. But if he wants to be developed for the NBA Barnes can help as well as anyone in that regard.

Barnes isn’t going to let us know if he’s breaking them anyway😂

I think some expect us to to have sign players already.

Also, I’d be willing to bet the Prices and Wilsons of the world know the same thing some posters in here do but they know if they say it it’s instantly credible. They aren’t trying to lose a source by causing any trouble. They’ll report when they know they can safely.

also remember that Barnes and company aren't going to build their rosters based on recruiting service rankings. They could be evaluating and recruiting some guys flying way under the radar.
This: our women's program built a roster last year based on recruiting service rankings and it turned into a dumpster fire

I think Hines is an upgrade over Okpara too

"Baby Shaq" he's probably 10-15 pounds from being an absolute beast. Watching film I'm most impressed with his efficiency. Dude only played 18mpg but pulled down 5.5 rpg and blocked 2.2 shots a game while giving up like 20% FG on spot up looks when he was the primary defender. Meaning even as a shot blocking big he was hustling out to guard the 3 point line.

His per 40...had him as a 14ppg, 12rpg, 5bpg type guy. Think of what Carey did when he was "on" and now give that body 3" inches, more length and a Felix like motor...that's what Hines looks like already. And he was playing like this in the Big East. He lead the conference in blocks per game and was 14th in rebounds per game... again while only playing 18mpg off the bench.
