2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

yeah, i totally get what you’re saying on that. i know that rick limits shot attempts on some players, but i feel like to have green light like Ament & JG you got to be able to create. i just don’t think he has anything off the dribble imo.
He can get to the middy and hit that shot and that’s about it. His mama probably mad all our sets were ran for ament and Gillespie. That’s my guess

Bishop’s mom taking shots out the door at the program. Classy.

I don't blame her for taking up for her kid who was a starter all year and going to be asked to come of the bench the next year. I also don't blame Barnes for realizing the Boswell spot was a must position to improve offensively and not overspending on a bench player.

If you don’t want to be limited:
-be able to beat your man off the dribble. Bishop could not
-shoot better than 66% fts.
Bishop took the first 3 in the champ game but has to be set up and wide open for it as his slow release won’t allow him to come off picks or pull up in somebody’s face.

yep, his middy is solid & when he has a open 3. other than that, he has no bag

This is a very sensible and level headed take on your part. In case you don’t know such statements will not be tolerated on VN. Either come with nonsense or go home. 😂

But seriously I think she needs to be careful bc I was told he was a lock NCState. Just my opinion but her mouth may cost him $$ like someone else already said.

For sure and agree.

I know players like Bishop and Mashack are thinking “I’m better than what I’ve shown on offense”. And they are frustrated in part because they are correct. But while true, they weren’t better at almost any spot on the floor than JG, NA, CL and DK. So of course those players got the priority.

Basilio saying Tennessee has a Zoom meeting setup with Najai Hines from Seton Hall.
Technically he's supposed to be a freshman this upcoming season, since he reclassified into the 2025 class. He's was pretty efficient in the paint, pretty much an old-school, back to the basket type player. Also averaged 2.2 blocks/game. He'd add frontcourt depth, definitely not a starter imo.

Mashak was a true case of not taking open shots. He would have an open shot or even drive with an open shot and kick it.

And it just so happens that that middy is a really inefficient shot so we’re not looking to take a ton of them and if we do need one late in the clock, I have no issues with preferring either Ament or Gillespie be the one to take it 🤷‍♂️.

He needed to either hit contested 3s or get to the rim

2.2 blocks in 18 mpg as a high school senior in college? He's a starter my man, and a really good one.

Yes and taking contested 3’s is impossible when you are a guard and have pretty close to a set shot with no elevation

I can be convinced. I'd prefer we'd target an upperclassman at the 4/5 spot. I would hope that we can get consistent scoring out of our frontcourt with proven players.

By design IMO. I think it mostly demonstrates how much Mashack was a true team player.

His senior year, our offense was start with middle ball screen to try and get the easy points. If fails, run floppy to get Chaz a shot. Our offense was designed to spend the 28 seconds either hunting the lob dunk or Chaz a shot. A contested Chaz 3 was a higher percentage shot than an open Mashack 3 from anywhere but the corner. The corner was the only place he had a greenlight and we know that from staff interviews etc.

His Junior season it was similar but with DK. 28 seconds of trying to get the dunk/layup or get DK the ball.

Bishop maybe more than any player this year got his a** chewed by Barnes. But the way I see that is the same way as the famous story now about Austin Reaves. Austin says that LeBron was singling him out hard a couple years ago on the Lakers and absolutely lighting into him practice after practice. To the point that Reaves went to the coaching staff about it. And they told him "Oh you didn't know? He is treating you different because he sees something in you". And Well, LeBron was right.

It's too bad it looks like it won't work out. I was pretty down on Bishop coming into the season. And he had his ups and downs, but by the end of the year I could see the potential player he could be, and it's a pretty high level role player. But that might not be what he wants, and timelines might not make sense for everybody. But he IS a lot better player than I originally thought and is one of the things I was quite wrong about pre-season.
