2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

Obviously I could be wrong, but if the market has valued JP at $3-4 million with his known health issues, then we’re not likely finding a comparable JP replacement without health issues for $3-4 million as the market would value him higher than JP. I don’t envy our staff trying to figure this out and compiling a competitive roster on a budget.
Askin' ain't gettin'. If I were an agent, I'd be putting ridiculous numbers out for all of my players regardless of their reality. Just sayin'.

Lol. You can upgrade and retool the roster without blowing up the whole team. I promise you Barnes did not want to lose every guy who has entered.

Continuity to a point does matter, and it probably matters more in a strict, high discipline program like Barnes runs.
These guys don't want to come back and be role players. There are teams that are willing to make them starters and pay them better.

Why would Boswell want to come back and sit the bench after he was the starter most of the year?

Are you willing to have a starting lineup of....

?
Evans
Boswell
JP
Cade

Yeah it'd be great if they'd want to come back and take on lessor roles and I'm sure Barnes would have loved that but that's not reality.

He didn't, seems like staff had offers for every player on the team. All of those were bumps in $$$ too. They've all decide to pursue bigger roles or more $ in the portal based on whatever information their agents/people have given them.

During the first ten minutes of that game, we were bullying the eventual national champions on the boards.

Had we not been called for post fouls that hadn't been fouls all year, we wouldn't have been "absolutely smoked." Our guys, the ones leaving right now, were on the bench when they went on the run.
Ummm, yes we would have 😂 Unless you think our talent was up there w/UConn

I said yesterday he clearly does, my apologies to him for assuming he was TKjr
I know you said that. I appreciate it. 😂

I also wasn’t offended bc I know it’s very easy to get on here and shoot crap. I am genuinely a fan first who happened to play ball in school with a guy who moved up the social ladder a lot higher than I did.

Disagree. I think Evans has All-SEC potential. At the very least, a Boswell-like jump from his frosh-soph year.
He very well may, but is the chance it happens next season worth $2 mil? No. We can find equivalent talent from a guy with more experience and pay that money. If Evans wasn't going to be a 25 mpg guy who took a major leap into double-digit scoring territory on the offensive end, you don't make that kind of investment for him only to play this same game again next year.

to bad Carey isnt as athletic as Evans he would have really been a force. But im sure the rims are still shaking from all the missed bunnies and freethrows. And Estrella so good around the basket but he treated every shot like it was going to get blocked and he short armed everything. Boswell made so much progress but he couldnt stop fouling. Everyone talking about how Burg isnt that great. Well i know he isnt a 5 star ready point guard. But he did start playing pretty good there on the end and didnt turn the ball over as much. If he gets out of the dog house this summer with Barnes and works on his shot i still feel he can contribute off the bench and be reliable.

I don't know that I want a player who wouldn't an EE berth as a good trade-off for a strict system. If they're not on the same page for realistic money, then I'm not that sorry to lose them. This is not to say they don't deserve big money, but it's like weighing your salary against your benefits. You might accept less if the bennies are good.

He didn’t want to lose Evans/Phillips. And I’m not saying he gave them everything they wanted and they still left, but he still wanted them here. Estrella too, probably, but knew it wasn’t going to happen.

Here's my thing... Amari is wanting to be paid like the Vandy, Arkansas and South Carolina State game are what he offers.

But those 32 other games where he didn't put up even 10 points are what the staff is remembering 9 games where he shot 0% FG and in 7 of those he played 10 or more minutes.

Potential is there, with another year he'd be worth closer to that 2mil tag. Maybe he ends up making close to that somewhere...but they're paying a big price for "what if" imo and there are guards in the portal now with actual production that can be had for that price or less. (Lundblade being one we already landed)

This is very true, and a great point. Last couple of years I always wanted underclassmen brought in to 'grow in the program', but growing in the program has pretty much become irrelevant. Spend money on experienced kids who fit your scheme and whose adjustment time will be short, and they will be the ones to continue the culture.

We got absolutely smoked in the Elite 8 and you guys wanted to bring back some of these guys?

Like I get it the Evans transfer stings, but rumored 2 mil when we can probably get someone more experienced for the same price or less. Cade and JP have injury concerns that are not worth the risk paying as much as they are going to want. Carey, most on here were whining and crying about all year. Henderson, heck some of yall probably didn't even know he was on the team lol.

Y'all whine about how bad we were offensively and the fact that our bigs couldn't even hit layups, but then cry when coach Barnes doesn't pay them a ridiculous amount to stay.

It's pretty clear that coach Barnes is going to prioritize shooting/scoring this go-around... with the fact that he moved quickly on one of the nations best shooters and got him. Also with the fact of the guys we have rumored interest in.

I'd suggest that you guys wait at least two weeks and look at the upgrades he makes.

Some of you guys melting down over losing 6 guys who together averaged 33 ppg. That's an average of 5.5 ppg!

Tyler Lundblade and Thomas Dowd averaged 30 ppg combined.

You add in a Juke Harris (21 ppg) and/or Tyler Tanner (20 ppg) and you get a combined 71 ppg from 4 players! This is obviously a best case scenario, but jeez at least wait and see how everything shakes out.

My one counter is that Barnes is essentially losing everyone with experience in his program while losing his second in command. The culture that Barnes has built for the last decade is essentially done and extinct. I’m not saying that is good or bad. But it’s such an abrupt change that I don’t think many thought Barnes would do this late in his career.

I personally think Barnes has been told he can have whatever he needs to build a title winning roster. It’s just odd seeing him have this urgency all of the sudden to make abrupt roster changes like this.
