I think the asking vs offering perspective is important here. If he's getting an offer for $3 million, likely anybody who can beat him is already seeing similar offers. Maybe we wouldn't offer that for him, but we have to be willing to offer that to someone.
Thanks for bringing the numbers. It puts it into proper perspective. I know it did for me when I looked at the numbers for Phillips.Big fan of JP...but against better frontcourts he vanished mostly.
vs Michigan 3 of 9 for 7 points
vs Iowa State 2 of 8 for 6 points
at Kentucky 4 of 13 for 11 points
Ultimately having to "light a fire" just get him to rebound at a high level or defend with some energy probably got tiring for staff.
61 career games, only 5 times did he reach double digit rebounds and only 6 times did he hit 15 or more points
Nate went for 15 or more in 23 of 35 games
Carey went for 10 or more rebounds 6 times in his 37 games here
Felix hit 10 or more rebounds in 5 games this season too & 15 or more points in 4 games
What I'm saying, as good as JP is when he's on there still is room to upgrade at that spot especially for the sort of price tag JP was likely asking.
Senior Felix: 26.9ppg 8.0ppg 6.3rpg 1.5bpg
Freshman Tiller: 25.9mpg 7.9ppg 6.1rpg 1.3bpg
Boswell was our only regular rotation player whose usage went up against Tier A competition.Big fan of JP...but against better frontcourts he vanished mostly.

JP also has the ability to score outside with his outstanding shooting touch. He may be looking for an environment that better suits his skills instead of one that views him as a Uros Plavsic type of center. JP is more of a stretch five. I view him better suited for a role like Al Horford had with the Celtics.I disagree. He has the ability to score down low. Teams are willing to overpay for a tall center who can score.
Yeah. Ive had coworkers move on after getting crazy offers. You can’t blame someone for taking a big bag when they get an opportunity like that. It’s not personal (usually)I can see our staff congratulating him and wishing him well. I would be surprised if there is hard feelings from either party. It's just good business from both sides.

JPs shooting touch and range seems to get overrated a lot on here. (Mostly by people who love watching mediocre shooters brick open 3s from the top of the key early in the shot clock.) It’s fine, but he’s not some sniper. His FT% was mid and he stopped shooting those 3s for a reasonJP also has the ability to score outside with his outstanding shooting touch.
