2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

Does the staff have any particular concerns they are vetting on either player? I don’t know much about Dowd outside of the stat line posted earlier. I also know there are certain posters in this thread that believe Lundblade is a turnstile on defense. Any hesitation from the staff on that front?
Other than his defense, I wonder how his game will translate to this league and more athletic defenders. One trick ponies sometimes struggle in this league.

Gotcha, will try to find some tape but that makes sense.
Shot 33% from 3... Basically the same as Ament and JG. Helluva a rebounder. Had multiple 15 rebounding games, with a season high of 19 one game.

Absolute monster on the offensive glass as well. Had 104 there. One more than Carey, who was phenomenal in that area.

To me this looks like an upgrade over Carey and Cade.

Would Dowd be more of a stretch 4 type? Never watched, really.
Looks like 6’7” victor Valdez was the 3, 6’8” Dowd the 4, and a 6’9” guy was the 5. Valdez was a slasher (lots of 2’s and assists). Dowd shot a decent amount of threes and had a lot of rebounds. Basically a stretch 4 for them, it appears.

Lots of blocks and steals so he’s an athlete I guess

🤦‍♂️ after seeing some of your alls takes in this part & the LV forum.. message boards should require an IQ test to post. My Lord. Some of yalls takes are wild lol. Id take a 3pt specialist over 1 great defender all day. You dont need 5 lock down players. He obv isnt coming to fill the DK or Chaz role. If he can make 2-3 3pters a game & spread the defense, he's doing his job.. Barnes can make his defense serviceable if its so bad.

Ppl complain we dont have shooters but soon as we go after 1, yall complain the defense sucks? Think some of you just want something to complain about lol

So true. All we've seen on here all season is pissing and moaning about "Barnes won't bring in shooters, all he cares about is defense". So here he is hosting the best f***king shooter in the portal and he's a non-starter because of a lack of defense??? Insanity.

The kid is a 40% 3-pt. shooter and a 94% FT shooter, he's a catch-and-shoot machine. If there's not a place for a player like that somewhere on the roster, I'm not sure what the hell we're even doing.

My biggest worry with Dowd is his ability to play at this level and in big moments.

2025 vs UK - 0 points 0-7 fg but did have 11 rebounds
2026 vs Nebraska - 4 points 1-11 fg 9 rebounds

Rebounding certainly wasn't a problem but seemed to be cold vs two quality oppents. Just something to take notice of... His highlights look good. Seems to be quick for 6'8.

In a vacuum - if im making a 1 for 1 tradeoff between offense and defense im taking offense. Especially in this program

@bleedingTNorange is there a high major guard we have eyes on in the portal or just working the back channels right now? I really like a lot of these mid major guys, but like you said, every mid major guy has risk. I would assume we at least want 1 or 2 high majors while also trying to get Lundblade, Wilkins, and Foxwell type of guys as well.
Yes, they’re evaluating HM guys as well…obviously those typically cost more so there constant evaluations going on about what is the best way to fill out the roster and budget

More athletic Cade Phillips that can shoot the 3 ball decently. Would be bad news for Cade if we landed him imo.

Also it looks like Coach Barnes is tired of terrible free throw shooting. This guy shot 80% from FT this year.

Our 4 bigs averaged 60.5% in comparison.
Idk if it’s Cade or JP it would impact, could go either way…we’ve talked about it here and Cade is kind of a Felix at the 5 option, this guy is more of a 4 or even a 3 potentially in the right matchups. I wouldn’t think they’ll take both Dowd AND a rim protecting 5, but I could be wrong, if it was just Dowd obviously there’s some flexibility still.

Thoughts on Dowd? Curious if staff sees both Dowd and Lundblade as starters and at which positions.
There’s flexibility with both, Lundblade could play 2/3 and Dowd could play 4/3, obviously would greatly depend on who else they add and who stays vs. who goes as to whether they’d start. I think more than anything both guys would be expected in a 8 man rotation.

A healthy Cade could definitely step into the Felix rim-protector rim-runner role. With him it really all comes down to health, right? He's a 'culture guy', so if he can fill that role it's an all around win.

Yeah my first impression as well...I don't think he's got the same body/strength of Carey...but he looks very much like a more advanced offensive Cade.

Maybe, but Nebraska held them to 47 total points...wasn't really anyone scoring for Troy.

2 next toughest teams though
at San Diego State - 25 points on 7/12 shooting 19 rebounds, 1 assists in a double OT win
at USC Trojans - 19 points on 6/16 shooting 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block in a 1 point loss
