I think you may have unintentionally co-mingled bucks from three different buckets:I don't know if his numbers are accurate, but I suppose it's possible. With CKC only making $1m/year it seems UT is spending heavy money on players.
I was only referring to total revenue spent on a sport from a University, not outside NIL funds.I think you may have unintentionally co-mingled bucks from three different buckets:
—budgeted funds, from which coaches' salaries, travel, etc are paid.
—House settlement (maximum disbursement per school=$20.5 million) revenue sharing, from which players are paid.
—NIL payments to players for “services” off court.
These are not interchangeable.
OK. Still, money spent to pay a coach is not available to pay a studennt. Or the reverse…I was only referring to total revenue spent on a sport from a University, not outside NIL funds.
Interesting.
That was the point. Paying a coach $1m vs $3-4m frees up some cash.OK. Still, money spent to pay a coach is not available to pay a studennt. Or the reverse…
ETA- if the creative accounting department gets involved, some revenue share funds could, maybe, be directed to staff compensation, but a funds flow in the other durection would arouse the ire of the NCAA.
My point was the exact opposite of yours. That was the point. Paying a coach $1m vs $3-4m frees up some cash.
If the chart is correct, it appears UT spends close to $10m a year on WBB. Only $1m of that is/was dedicated to the HC.
It’s definitely going to be a tall task for her, but if she can be successful at NW and build that program up to be a serious contender in the B1G, it’ll be extremely impressive.Great hire for the Wildcats. Berube definitely has the coaching chops, the question is whether she will be able to go head-to-head with the big boys in recruiting. She did a creditable job of attracting quality players (who were also able to meet fairly stringent academic requirements) to Princeton but competing in the B1G is an entirely different challenge to playing in the Ivy League. If Berube can energize alumni support along with securing reasonable backing from the athletic department, I suspect that she can turn the Wildcats around much like Shea Ralph did with the 'dores.
Before being at Princeton she had a great 17-year run at D3 Tufts. 80% win percentage, 4 Final Fours and 2 national championship appearances. She also won the Pat Summitt award for coach of the year in D3. Like Princeton, a very high academic school. Whether she’ll make the grade at Northwestern isn’t a sure thing but I think she’s got as good a chance of winning there as anyone else available.Great hire for the Wildcats. Common sense viewpoints. He doesn’t pull punches. More interesting than the usual coachspeak mush.![]()
UConn's Geno Auriemma says Title IX 'pretty much out the window'
UConn women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma on Thursday said Title IX legislation, in practice, is "pretty much out the window."www.espn.com
Wasn't sure where to dump this. some interesting thoughts on title IX and on neutral site games.
If a team defeats Connecticut this season it will be as big a upset as Villanova defeating Georgetown in 1985 NCAA Mens Championship game....yea I'm that old...No team is ever infallible.
