Does this person think Oats is highly unlikely because UNC wouldn't seriously pursue him, or that Oats wouldn't have much interest? I think Oats would have tremendous interest in the UNC job; this isn't football. He's been great at Alabama, but it's Alabama basketball.Stevens: expected full court press
May: getting a call for sure
TJ: Getting a call for sure
Oats/Golden: highly unlikely but gauging interest
Per someone inside the program and close to the situation.
Take it for what it’s worth.

If Golden didn't win a title just last year, I think he'd leave UF too. I could see May strongly considering the job, but he might not be ready to leave Michigan after just 2 years and if he wins it all this year, I don't think he'd go anywhere. TJ would absolutely take the UNC job.
Stevens might be more of a harder sell since he might want to remain a GM and not get back into coaching.
I honestly can’t see Carolina hiring Oats or Golden given their character concerns. Carolina has this perception of themselves that they are the “class” organization of college basketball and that things should be done the way “Coach Smith” would want them to be done. I don’t see that with Oats and I don’t see it w/ Golden. I think the most likely to get the job will be TJ or Vandy’s coach . Then again I never thought they’d hire Belichick either .Does this person think Oats is highly unlikely because UNC wouldn't seriously pursue him, or that Oats wouldn't have much interest? Otzelberger sounds like the guy, until you really read into him. He’s been in Ames for much of his career (since 2006), and his wife played basketball for the Cyclones and is their most legendary player. They’re as ISU legacy as it gets. But the thing is: Iowa State is kinda screwed long term in the NIL era, so I think TJ will inevitably leave sooner or later, legacy or not, as that reality sets in.I honestly can’t see Carolina hiring Oats or Golden given their character concerns. It kind of sounds similar to Matt Campbell taking the job at Penn State. I wasn’t aware that Otzelberger had been in Ames for 20 years, but it’s still Carolina. That’s a pinnacle job in college basketball, despite what Jay Williams says (this coming from someone who’s been going to Duke games since they were 3 years old). The main issue I have w/ Carolina is that they seem rudderless at the moment. Bubba Cunningham is leaving, the hiring of Belichick was very divisive and remains a very divisive issue in campus and with school leadership. I don’t know who is making the hire, but they can’t afford to screw this upOtzelberger sounds like the guy, until you really read into him. Byington seems like the most likely hire to me either way. Dusty May, Lloyd and Donovan feel like pipe dreams but UNC would be stupid not to at least gauge them.
Probably be even more important for him to know the current state of college basketball.Oats may not be Carolina material in someone Alumni/Fans/Donors eyes.
If you follow what I’m saying.
Also said that way on the outside there’s Billy Donavan, only issue is timing. I don’t hate this move but id rather have a coach that knows the current state of college football
