Bees in the bats......yuck!
When I was playing high school ball we had an early season practice outside in 32* temps…We still used wooden bats and during batting practice one guy shattered the bat in the cold and busted both his palms, sending blood everywhere. All that blood stained everything. I’ll never forget that moment and always think about it when baseball is played in COLD temps.

Whoa, man. Really? Not disputing that is what happened, but dang, that sounds awful. I kinda wonder was there like some sort of ,'pre existing condition' that precipitated this? Never heard of that before.

IIRC ….it split down the creases in his palms…both hands. The jarring in wooden bats could be painful, especially in 32* weather. I remember the old persimmon head drivers we hit playing golf. A little off center contact could be kinda uncomfortable too…not like a bat of course but still…medal headed, gear driven drivers changed the game. Played a week or so back …missed one fairway in the round. We were laughing afterwards how many we’d miss with wood drivers… a lot more than one for sure.

What a miserable day for a baseball game
I don’t know when the NCAA and the colleges will wake up and move the beginning of baseball, softball, and lacrosse seasons to early April. Millions and millions of lost potential dollars because of low temps, sleet, snow. Every school has lights now once it gets hot and athletes spend 364 days a year on campus.
