KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – No. 19 Tennessee closes out a six-game homestand on Tuesday evening against Tennessee Tech in its final contest before SEC play begins this weekend.

The Volunteers are coming off a successful 4-1 week that included an impressive midweek victory over ETSU and a series win over Wright State.

BROADCAST INFO

Tuesday's contest against the Golden Eagles will be streamed on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app with Myan Patel (PxP) and VFL Redmond Walsh (analyst) on the call.

Fans can also listen to the Voice of Tennessee Baseball John Wilkerson and Vince Ferrara call the action via a free audio stream on UTSports.com, the Tennessee Athletics App and the Varsity App.

SERIES HISTORY

Vols vs. Tennessee Tech
Overall: UT leads, 74-32-1
in Knoxville: UT leads, 49-13
in Cookeville: UT leads, 25-18-1
at Neutral Sites: TTU leads, 1-0
Last Meeting: April 1, 2025 (W, 7-1 in Knoxville)

The Vols have won back-to-back straight in the series by a combined score of 18-2 after dropping two in a row to the Golden Eagles in 2022 and 2023.

NOTABLE

Winning the Close Ones
Tennessee has been exceptional in close games so far this season, having posted a 5-1 record in contests decided by two runs or less. The Big Orange posted a pair of one-run victories over the weekend against Wright State after winning back-to-back games against Arizona State and Virginia Tech by two runs the previous weekend.

Vols vs. In-State Foes
The Vols have had plenty of success against in-state programs during now head coach Josh Elander's time on the coaching staff. During Elander's eight seasons as an assistant/associate head coach and now skipper for the Vols, they are 47-19 overall against in-state opponents, which includes a 5-3 record against Tennessee Tech.

Continuing Midweek Success
The Big Orange have been dominant in midweek games since Elander joined the staff in 2018, having compiled an 81-11 record in such contests during that span. Tennessee is off to a 4-0 start in midweeks this season after downing ETSU and Oakland last week.

Wright Providing Spark to the Lineup
Junior catcher/outfielder Garrett Wright provided a major boost to Tennessee's lineup during his first week of action after returning from injury. The Bowling Green transfer led the Vols with a .462 batting average last week and was also hit by four pitches over four games to bring his career total to 53.

After this weekend who are we thinking are the top 9 going into SEC play?

I think you run back Sunday's lineup (after a shut out doesn't feel too good) and ride with them plus Lawless is you decide to bench Levi. That gives us the highest ceiling hitting wise. Use Myatt/Antigua as subs and maybe Grindlinger as a PH for lefties.

I do Sunday’s lineup but replace Newstrom at 2B with Finley Bates and Clark at C with Lawless.

I’m gonna look at this through the glass half full lens. No way we missed on these guys and our ability to hit. They will come around very soon……..our players will figure this out, and if they don’t Josh will find suitable replacements. Go Vols! Beat Tech and Beat those damn Georgia Bulldogs down in Athens this weekend.

Most seem to make their biggest jumps in improvement between their Sophomore and Junior years. Most underclassmen need reps and experience in the “pressure” games on the road, in Hoover, and during Regionals and/or Supers. There’s a reason TN went to Omaha for several years with little to no success before winning it all in 24. That 24 team was seasoned, experienced, determined, and confident. They believed in themselves because they went through the trenches together.

What about the freshman infielder we heard so much about Moore I think his name is, a SS that can play 2nd also is he just not as ready as everyone thought?
He’s likely going to be redshirted. He’s not ready and buried on the depth chart. Huge upside on the switch hitting Ethan Moore for sure…

2024 doesn't happen without the scars of 2022 (how it ended) and 2023.

And, shoot, even within 2023, I don't think you make Omaha without having gone through the soup like you did to start SEC play.

Its why I like this team having been stressed several times so far. *IF* they figure it out, and its always an 'if' in baseball, that's something they can draw on later.

Totally agree. I personally feel this team is too young and inexperienced to have much postseason success but you never know with quality pitching and solid defense. Winning at a high clip while starting 4 or 5 sophomores is an incredibly difficult task.

"Like" your information but not the reality of the UT offense.

On the bright side: Pitching and defense looks to be very good. Outfield of Wright, Abernathy, and Chapman is outstanding. Love the options and various arm slots/variety of bullpen arms. The 3 weekend starters are strong and Arvidson, Krenzel, and Frederick can throw multiple innings if needed.
