Doesn’t quite work like that. In the NFL, if you go to IR you can be medically cleared but there is still a 21 day practice window before a decision is made to return. That’s for any injury. If it’s an ACL, most cases in the NFL the guy gets medically cleared and it’s still a 3-6 week ramp up period. In college football, the season is over by the time u go through that phase. So in all likelihood he was probably actually ready to play in the last regular season game but by then what’s the point. You wanna' explain Why cleared doesn't equal healthy?
Seems to me that Medical Staff clearing someone to play means they are healthy enough to play.
Otherwise, the Medical staff could be liable!!
I think the real problem is the interpretation of “cleared”. Medically cleared just means you completed rehabilitation and can practice. Guys are often cleared 6-9 months after an ACL but there is still another 1-3 month period after before u are ready to actually play a game. It’s generally why NFL teams will open an IR player’s practice window a few weeks after being cleared if it’s an ACL, and usually use the entire 21 day practice window for ramp up.The question is when was he cleared. If it was after OU, then it's irrelevant. We were finishing 8-4 regardless if McCoy played vs Vandy or not. And he would have still sat out the bowl game.
Yeah. I’m not going to follow McCoy around hating on him for the rest of my life, but that’s the definition of selfishness and not giving back. Before NIL and pay for play, I might have had a different reaction, but he was paid to play, was cleared, and he chose not to play. That's tough to swallow. And I don't understand people being okay with Tennessee getting hung out to dry.
There’s little chance that he was in peak condition after not practicing for 9+ months. I’m guessing “cleared” means “cleared to play”, but it just means his knee and muscles were strong enough to have played. He probably would have struggled for a month or so.Also incorrect. Medically cleared does not equal “game ready.” Never has.
Such an incredible, cosmic coincidence those seven all had ACL tears, too. Radner suffered simultaneous ACLs after Chase and Akroyd went high/low on her. Literally clawed her way onto skits nightly.Lorne Michaels nicknamed the original SNL cast the "Not Quite Ready Primetime Players". However, they still got out on that stage every Saturday night, ready or not, and look how they wrote TV history!! We can only now imagine the trajectory of McCoy's life and career if he just rolled up his sleeves and said "Pucket Coach, put me in"!!
