GAME THREAD: @ Ole Miss, Tuesday, 2/17, 7pm EST, ESPNU

She's not a sore looser. She's perplexed by the way her post players have played almost all season and she can't get them to understand. Zee was much better at the end of last season than the start of this season. What ever the reason if it was the 3 x 3 play or the lose of Ruby no excuse she could have played herself into a W player.
We had post play trouble her first yr also. I don’t know how she seen how we were getting demolished in the post her first and thought just getting Jersey would fix the problem. Post play is not in her ministry of offense on any of the teams she’s coached. So the blame falls with her.

A big bulky post and couple of shooters would change a lot of things for this team offensively and defensively.

Although if both Pauldo twins were to hypothetically bounce after the season, odds are it would be to somewhere with a higher profile than OM. Every major program - UConn, LSU, SCar, Texas, UCLA, etc. - would be bidding for their services
I don't know about that. Maybe now that they've played some college ball, but there's a reason those teams didn't heavily recruit them the first time.

She needs to grow up she's probably 22-23 years old. Real life is coming fast for the seniors and the W is not looking likely had she kept improving there was a good chance she could have been drafted. You can see at the first sign of failure she just gives up. Hopefully something clicks and she can learn from it.
She just have to work harder in Europe league or some other league. If does not impress with effort rest of volunteers season.

I'd look miserable too if I was playing a game packing for travel and getting home un-packing and look at the clock and say after school work get to work got another game tomorrow. Am I on the plane or are we at home tomorrow what about that test will they give me a waiver, I just cant think straight anymore etc.. This 4 game playing of overloading these young ladies is on the SEC, JMO. At some time you got to do a cancellation and give up on making TV money on the young ppl playing the game. This 4 game stretch is just too much on 20 year old's trying to navigate college and it was due to the earlier Ole Miss moved game, that should have been canceled, this is a tournament game anyway the regular season is just for seeding.
Nah, the LVs have had the easiest travel schedule imaginable up until this last stretch. They"ve played less games overall than most teams, played almost all their preseason games at home, and have had several full weeks off. The SEC sched was totally front loaded, which is why they're sitting on 8 league wins. OM played Sunday in Kentucky, so they were also fresh off travel last night. If we can't handle this stretch, we have no hope in any tournament.
I was talking to a faculty member who said some of the players have missed 5 of 10 their class sessions. I know we don't care about school anymore, but I have had athletes cry to me about the stress they feel from being so behind in their classes.
Why do schools let this be a problem? My P4 athete actually finds it easier to do classwork on the road because there are dedicated study times and not as many distractions. And everything is online, lectures, assignments, research etc. , I don't understand why not being able to attend classes in person is a problem anymore.
🎯🎯👏🏻👏🏻absolutely spot on here. This fan base is too toxic & impatient. Always comparing the new coach to Summitt. No one will ever be good enough or accomplish enough to live up to that. What coach in their right mind would wanna come here that already has a solid job?
You do understand that fans, especially on message boards, have zero to do with ADs hiring decisions, right? If you're a fan who attends games and you stop going, then you have a slight voice. If you're a donor you have a bg voice, the larger the donation the louder the voice. But if you're just a guy, like most of us, bloviating on a message board you got nothing.

If she cannot get them to understand, she should at least sit them on the bench and perhaps flush them. When Ruby was dismissed Coach talked about the reputation and shine of the Lady Vol program....
and players not being "all in" on all levels fits into that category. Some may be happier where the team atmosphere is more of a summer camp and not with inherent pressure to play to a certain standard

I remember saying last season that Kim's lack of sportsmanship in the handshake line was not a good look and gave players the permission to do the same. Some of you all said it was because she has a newborn and she didn't want to get sick. I think that theory went out the window tonight. Geno and Mulkey (2 of the coaches you all love to call rude on here) ALWAYS slow down and look the players and coaches in the eye and congratulate them. I'm not attacking Kim's character, but to say it's a bad look and culture setter for the team is an understatement.
well said here ..... win AND lose with grace no matter what the circumstances

When Coach Barnes eventually retires, I hope ADDW doesn't try to "experiment" by hiring an inexperienced men's BB coach the way he did with the women's team. I have nothing against CKC, I like her passion and personality, but she's never had a season like this before and it's evident in the way she conducts herself before/after games and in the PCs. I do think she'll come good eventually, but the growing pains were always going to be a thing and weren't really necessary if I'm being 100% honest
This 1000%! And I'm concerned about that. DW seems to fancy himself as some savant of unknown coaching greatness. He had no business going the unproven route for the LV program after two previous coaches failed (not his hires). Imagine Alabama football, post-Saban, looking for coach #3 and hiring some FCS coach that was on nobody's radar! They are ready to fire Deboer now and he's a really good coach that was on everyone's short list!

Thing was the portal last season compared to year one for Kim wasn't as good to her. Acquiring both Barker and Jersey were gambles since it would be their 3rd schools and we didn't put our names in the hat for the Ser.Williams sweepstakes fast enough. Kim also probably gave her asst coaches a lot of reign to find the players and she took the interviews, etc especially with her 2 months of maturity leave looming. Now in year 3 to keep this from happening again she has to be more hands on and keep her asst coaches on a tight leash so they won't bring in uncoachable kids, who won't embody Lady Vols culture, and those simply looking for paycheck because we have the money. I've watched a few JUCO games on YouTube I see some kids that could play for us. Even some international talent from FIBA.

*sighs* I think back to what Candace Parker said and why she would never be a coach because her daddy coached her and her brothers like Joe Jackson (Michael's dad). I wouldn't want be a coach now everything is so heightened.

So Hurst is a big wing like Darby and Puckett. She's 6'3 but can stretch you out shooting but the bright spot she can rebound for us and play some defense. The starting lineup I envision is easy but Kim has execute it and stop rewarding Zee with starts and minutes she hasn't earned all season long.
I really doubt she's 6'3 maybe 6'1 or 6'2 but she plays hard and not soft. She needs more minutes with the way others are playing and others are contributing. She can score in many different ways a lot better than Jersey.

I don't think that's close to being true. Mya looks like the size of a middle schooler out there and Mia looks better, but way undersized. I don't think the pair were highly recruited out of high school. No offense, but Tennessee can do much better with a taller, stronger, take charge guard. If those 2 played for uconn, I would say the same thing. Tennesse needs bigger, better players and until CKC publicly dumps "her system", unfortunately I just don't see it happening.

Mike Hamilton felt the same way after he hired Bruce Pearl, look where that got us

Have to say she has taken the number one position of the freshmen with this performance. Looks like she will be starting according the the rules we use against A&M.

Well Barker was supposed to help also but she is more of a wing . The way Zee was progressing last year probably thought she would be even better this year but she went backwards by a lot.

1. It's not a good look.

2. I think she is so mad at this team she could chew horse shoes and spit nails.

3. She has to learn to manage and channel that anger.

4. She has NEVER had a team (or at least it's senior players) do this to her before. She needs to learn fast.
Points 2 and 4 put a finger on a bigger problem to me. She shouldn't be "mad at" them. This is not something "they're doing to her" any more than her stupid system is something she's "doing to them". This is an US problem, but I agree Kim seems to be taking it very personally with the hurt feelings of a scorned lover. There's an us versus them feel to all this that seems very harmful and unproductive.

All of this is just inexperience at this level and hopefully through all this pain, Kim will learn. She'll learn to manage her own feelings just like she's asking the players to manage theirs. Things like her self indulgence in her own pity party in the handshake line last night will not happen in the future. Also, she will be our coach at least through next season.

I'm going by what I read in her bio she's been listed as 6'3 for awhile.

You do understand that I didn’t say they did… right? I said no coach in their right mind (that has a solid job already) would want to come here because they will constantly be **** on and disrespected by this toxic fanbase because they’ll never measure up. I said nothing about ADs decision making.

Carson Beck stated he not been to class since graduating Georgia. Two years ago. Miami hurricanes quarterback.
He might be straight A student when he earning credits for college degree at Georgia.
But this turn into semi pro sports and talking classes is becoming optional.

Guessing some business companies well question some college athletes a little closer before hiring them.
Because they be question the value of the grades if most believe the academic standard to be for slipping pampered athletes

They've had a long hard road. The pre conference was easy at home but played a lot harder games away and neutral sites. Even with fewer games it's been a tough schedule the easier SEC first games were just that and did keep them in good light but we all knew what was coming. But we didn't expect players to preform the way they are.

Not all coaching a lot of it is personnel on this team. Some really underachieving post play. A lot of really poor shots and shooting. Coaches could be more versatile and have different defensive schemes, but it is a combination of coaching and players not one or the other.
Kim definitely needs an older, savvy asst coach that understands the interopings of coaching at this level. Look at Dawn who she got staffed Lisa Boyer she has been on her staff from the beginning and of course Jolette Law which eventually hurt Tennessee in the long run after Holly's firing. I understood the appeal of having a coaching staff in your age group especially with their generation of kids coming up, but I'm all for balance too.

Is Yo trying to poach Mia and Mya? Their dad has responded to her stuff a couple of times on X
Great just what we need that but bubbling up. Please Dad for the love of God shut up, do whatever you're gonna do in the background and do not add to any of the drama.
Someone said it in the TX game thread, the ladies were playing "Jekyll & Hyde". I think that is the most accurate description of this style of basketball. Either that or "chaos both ways". The problem is that the mistakes the system is supposed to cause on the opponent are often greater on the LVs. That is unsustainable for any program at any level with any history of success. Either the youngsters will improve significantly, aided by better portal transfers than we've seen or this will not work. I'm sorry that makes a lot of folks upset to hear but it's the truth. Some believe it's going to start getting much better next season. It must.
Agree. The chaos we're supposed to feed off of has mostly eaten us against the better teams. I always said the system will only work if we can control tempo and our shooting and half court defense have been too poor to allow us to control tempo.

Just me or did we do a minimal amount of trapping last night? Felt like OM pressed and trapped as much as we did. The easy buckets we gave up were not usually because they broke the trap, but because our half court defense was completely nonexistent against the drive to the rim.

If Mya and Mia both bounce after just a year then CKC's in deep ****

Mia and Mya are a package deal !They were making money before coming here and I believe they have improved on that here ?
Civil and Prawl are getting good playing time as Freshmen… Hurst (brother ) and family are UT fans ! And she could just play volleyball if she is not happy with basketball?

Other than Miss. State ….. have we lost to any other team that was ranked lower than us ? Have we won all the games we were supposed too win? 🤔

Is that really the standard against which an 8-time National Championship program should be judged? Have we really fallen that far?
