What are some bands/artists you like that you think should have been bigger? Here are a few of mine. If rock/hard rock is your thing and you have never heard of or listened to these before, check these out. You might like them.

1.) Brother Cane

Formed in 1990. I would describe this band's sound as a cross between Aerosmith and The Black Crowes. They scored a mild MTV hit with the single "Got No Shame" but never really went anywhere. However their debut album is great!

2.) Tygers of Pan Tang

Dreadful name aside, this British metal band was great! Formed in 1978, they went through some lineup changes but when they added guitarist John Sykes (Whitesnake/Thin Lizzy) and singer John Deverill, the band really sounded awesome!

3.) Badlands

Blues based hard rock band formed in 1988 by guitarist Jake E. Lee, along with singer Ray Gillen, drummer Eric Singer and bassist Greg Chaisson. These guys had a great sound!

4.) Hardline

Formed in 1991 by brothers Johnny and Joey Giolli, this hard rock band also featured Journey guitarist Neal Schon, along with drummer Dean Castronova and bassist Todd Jensen. The timing of this band forming was probably its biggest enemy with the changing landscape in music. But this album was great!

Locally: The V-Roys, 10 Years, and Superdrag were all great in their prime.

311 had a cult following, but they were so great. Goose currently.

Scott Miller Are You With Me cd is in my truck :)
I've seen and met him more times than I can count. His solo work/Commonwealth stuff is better than what you hear on country radio. He's a talented songwriter and storyteller, and many of his songs (and those from the V-Roys) are in my playlists and guitar arsenal.

I always thought Glossary should have gotten more love. They were out of Murfreesboro and rocked the few times I saw them live.

Fates Warning (awesome prog metal band, as good to me as Dream Theater)
Shok Paris (80s power metal band from Cleveland)
Tygers of Pan Tang (thanks for the shoutout by Brave Volunteer)
Shark Island (great LA 80s band, Axl Rose allegedly stole most of his stage moves from their lead vocalist)
Praying Mantis (NWOBHM band, very melodic with hooks and harmonies)

Blitzen Trapper (great americana/indie rock band)
Menomena
Megafaun (guys that were with Bon Iver before he became Bon Iver)
White Denim (so talented and master the crazy weird off tempo beat)

really would have loved seeing superdrag
I had an advanced art class with John Davis in high school. He was a friendly and interesting guy, very creative and talented with paints, as well. I thought it was so cool when "Sucked Out" actually got some play on MTV.

311 was pretty big IMO. May be an age thing though (and I think we're close).
Yeah, I saw them several times back in the 90s at the Electric Ballroom, etc., and they returned to Knoxville a few years ago for a show at the Mill and Mine. I ran into several people I hadn't seen in decades. They seem like good dudes. I think they largely grew up, had families, and just went that direction. They were great on the reunion tour, though.

Good list. I was listening to Hot Cherie the other day. Badlands were good but man they went bluesy after that debut.

I was surprised Slade wasn't bigger in the US.
no kiddin.

if it werent for Brit music magazines, I would never have learned of countless great bands. It's embarrassing that so many good groups have to leave the States to be heard. I have been stranded in Tuscaloosa for more than 40 years and apparently tuned to a different wavelength from folks here who were in school in the late 60s & early 70S

I think with Slade it was bad timing. We were just coming out of the Vietnam War, and I don't think the general public was in the mood for such a band. We were still licking our wounds, so to speak, and nobody wanted an irreverent, good time band at that time. If they had come out 2-3 years later, I think they could've been huge.

Another band I think should've been bigger was Riot (not to be confused with Quiet Riot).
