Was that the same as Alumni Gym? I saw several concerts there when I was in school, and some intramural games were played in it also - plus wrestling meetsLowery was the coach when I interned Tennessee in the Fall of 1956. Tennessee played their home games in Memorial gymnasium. he had a decent team but didn’t threaten to win the Conference title. The Gym was a disaster, Hardly any seating and one side of it was a huge stage. Lighting was terribly insufficient. I remember one night we were playing Kentucky coached by Adolf Rupp. When his team came on the court, they were wearing minor’s hats with were used in coal mines to provide light in the mines. It was an embarrassing place to play SEC basketball.
In the mid to late 80s, I played basketball almost every weekend at Alumni Gym. Even if the doors were locked, they were pickable, we played on the main floor/Gym, still had all the orange, most of the time until they put a cover and lock on the hoop. Then we moved to the upstairs gym, which was always locked, but still pickable with a hard pull. Great memoriesAlumni Memorial Auditorium and Gymnasium
