GAME THREAD: Kentucky in Knoxville, Thursday, 1/22, 6:30 pm EST, SEC Network

The best I can see is win at Ole Miss and Georgia on the road. Win every game left at home. That gets us 13 conference wins which would be an amazing total considering half this team are freshmen. The games were really up against it are at Oklahoma, at LSU, at South Carolina, and then next home vs Texas and road Ole Miss. Those five if we get two would be a certain way to make the top four in the conference if we take care of business in the other games which we should win. I know Georgia on the road will also be a challenge. Texas A&M and Missouri along with Miss St should be wins at home. Then of course Vandy is the last one hopefully we are at full strength when we play them.
Schedule was really set in our favor this year. Everything should be worked out by the time we play the top ranked conference teams. If they play defense the way they played last night no reason we can't play with anyone. With a good shooting night can beat anyone especially at home. Hopefully they take the film room seriously and not foul 3 point shooters.

Other than playing most of the best teams on the road yes it was set well for us to get some wins and some playing experience in SEC for the freshmen before we meet those teams.

Nell doesn't know what day it is and Kenny Brooks is a whiny little bitch.
I thought Coach Brooks' repeated trashing of this game as "setting women's basketball back15 years" and "I wouldn't have watched it" etc. was extremely poor. Was it a defensive struggle? Yes. Was it that neither team had their normal complement of players and both seemed tight? Yes. Could he have said, "We have to take care of the ball better." Unquestionably. And his crack about "Those are Kim's girls..." -- cheap and disrespectful. I haven't listened to him before, but he sounded like a man who thought he had this upstart coach figured out and learned he isn't quite all that.

As for the announcers -- could they just talk about the game once in a while? Who was the foul on? How many fouls does that player have? What was the call? Which team is getting the ball? They ramble on about what they think a player or coach may be thinking or feeling -- dumb, they don't know and we don't care what their guesses are -- and ignore the opportunity to actually help fans understand what's happening, maybe learn a little more about basketball, thereby building a deeper and more committed fan base for women's basketball. Talk basketball, dadgumit!

If we had met what I call our minimum offensive goals we would've scored 77 points on our shots and free throws last night. So we fell 17 points under the minimum and were still able to get the win. Talked about defense all year and this team finally showed some real hustle last night and some awesome lock down defense.
Kentucky made almost all their mistakes being guarded in half court defense. We really applied strong pressure and forced a lot of errant passes. The type of defense we played definitely gives us a chance in any game we play going forward if we can just get the offense going to the minimums.
So 34 percent from the field, 23 percent from the three, and 44 percent from the foul like won us a game. Amazing, but true defense can win you a game sometimes.
It shows Kim and staff that they work on more in practice than just her system and she will adjust accordingly. Really good W when you see the offensive percentage. In CHRIST Alone

What doesn't need to be overlooked is that Prawl and Civil combined for 17/10/3 to adequately make up for Barker being out last night...

Civil will be a jack of all trades in the future and Prawl will be that toughness on the court...
All three deserved Co-players-of-the-game in my opinion. Well, maybe shared by Coop's Hands. 😀

The way each of them brought the exact same level of toughness and execution, and how each added a different necessary ingredient to the winning recipe, was something if you'd have asked me yesterday morning how likely it would be that THREE freshmen would come up so big against Kentucky I'd have had to say, "The chances are slim that all three will play well enough to pretty much carry the team to victory."

The freshmen kicked azz. Love to see it!

I will forever wonder what possessed Kenny Brooks to draw up a final play that allowed to Talaysia Cooper to use her unnaturally gifted hands to get a steal. Coop gave us exactly what we needed in the fourth, and I appreciate Kim owning how she overcoached Coop this game.

Saw a post where Strack had been 18 for 18 over last 2 games vs Vols unbelievable, if I heard that right. She was 2 for 7 last night playing 35 minutes, she did get 15 rebounds though. I thought Vols schemed up a good D for Strack, when she tried to back down help D came and disrupted her a few times and got a tie up for jump once. A good night on D. The best UK looked on O is when we missed some long 3s, Robertson twice, and they rebounded and drove to paint and kicked out for open 3s and we fouled them on 2 which was 6 FTs, cant remember if they hit all of them I know Haslett was 3 for 3 on her trip to the line on her 3 foul.
Good D, Our O was little off, thank you freshmen, some the regulars were a little under their average O play. I think 1st Q Mia was sped up a little maybe the crowd got her to amped, which was amazing but she settled in the rest of the game and took over.

It was great to hear Kim take accountability for Coop’s bad night. Said she over coached her and put her in bad positions.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a big game from her vs Ole Miss.
Really classy of Kim to say this. I think she's now learning to coach half court offense, especially at this level. She's never really had to do that before, always depending on offense off of turnovers or quick shooting threes. The adjustment away from her system is a learning curve for her and I think she'll do a good job. Also coaching a player with as much talent but as fragile a mentality as Coop (and Barker and Zee) is new for her too.

I seriously doubt he drew it up to throw it thru Coops legs lol. Morgan has been good this yr but both she and Strack were epicallly awful last night. Credit defensive pressure
It feels like we've been shooting better on the road than at home in SEC play.
Our shooting is just inconsistent. Literally a crap shoot every time out.

What a 🍆
Sounds like whiney sour grapes guy for sure. Shouldn't have said it out loud. But also not wrong. I said the exact same thing after the first quarter. These are the kind of games that people who deride WBB watch and say "that's why". Ranked teams with a level of play somewhere between D2 and high school. But I think we have to get used to that as long as the plan is win by chaos. Hopefully edges get smoothed in the future. A win is a win and that was a big one.

As a whole, the three Freshman controlled the game. It is amazing the progress our Freshmen have made since The last of November.

I'm just wandering how hard it is to deal with some of the transfers. All the freshmen seem dialed in and taking coaching really well. I've seen some of the transfers look a little miffed at times when a coach is trying to address something. After next year we shouldn't have to look at the portal to fill many spots. Hopefully our retention of the recruited players is 100% and only need 1 or 2 transfers each year. Hopefully we can get 3 high school players each year and not have to hit the portal but for specific needs.

Waa!!! Tennessee played defense and I didn't like that wouldn't watch it but I had to. Both teams were ugly they played defense. Why they have to do that? Kenny on the game last night.
