Arion Carter is Staying at UT

He lost leverage in a business transaction by not making the right decisions so that means the other party, in this case UT, being able to control the deal.

You’re assuming. Neither of us know the offers he had.

We've seen guys, wasn't it Rickey Gibson?, leverage the fact that someone got hurt to renegotiate his deal with UT.

This time it fell UT's way and that's just how business works.

If they got him at a lower number I’m not opposed. I’m opposed to the idea that we needed to punish him or that we should offer less if there’s other options for him (probably had plenty)

I think i saw about 20 posts of him not being a VFL and good riddance… wonder what the sentiment is now.

Go vols
You think he’s a hero now? He didn’t come back for his love of UT. He came back because draft stock wasn’t looking good, or he got offered a great nil package, or what’s likely is both.

I’m good with it, but let’s not anoint him a hero when in reality he was looking out for Mr. Carter, not UT.

It's business. As I said, you'll see it fall both ways and part of being successful at making deals is not letting the other guy leverage you.

When UT had an injury, lots of people here were pissed off when Gibson leveraged his sudden change in worth to the team but it made sense from a business perspective.

Carter screwed up and thought he was healthier or thought there was NFL interest or thought he'd be a hot portal property or whatever. For whatever reason, he didn't get interest from the NFL and apparently no big interest in the portal either so...... UT SHOULD underpay him because they can.

Nothing personal, just business -- Michael Corleone.

If our defense improves into the top 30 and our offense stays in the top 10, we will have a shot at the playoff again. Schedule ain’t favorable but good defense goes a long way.
Still need a DT or 2…
I agree. But given the new format, I believe we have another favorable schedule. Lots of big games at home. The big games ain’t going anywhere. 27 is tougher imo.

According to on.3 from page 1, says he decided not to enter the portal. Maybe just decided his draft stock wasn’t high enough and play another year of college. The portal comment maybe was made no knowing if there was a space for him at Tenn.

99% of posts and thoughts here don’t have the facts or backstory knowledge.

But using context and deductive reasoning one with intelligence can read between the lines and see why he’s back. Something didn’t go his way. You’re assuming he came back for his love of UT which is highly unlikely. If there was an offer out there for what he thought he was worth when entering the portal, anyone with common sense knows that’s where he would be.

Well, he's back isn't he? You think he turned down a better offer to come back to UT? Doubtful.

And if we upped his pay after he left, we are screwed from a business standpoint.

Nice guys shouldn't be making business decisions.

He just argues to argue. I don’t agree with all of your posts, but do like that you can be neutral for each side. I’ve seen you on the players side of this NIL mess, and I’ve seen you on the universities side of this mess.

I’ve rehired quite a few employees once they realized the grass wasn’t greener. One thing I’ve never done is rehire them at a higher rate than they left at. As you said, it’s business. Sometimes your on the good end, and sometimes your left holding the shat end.

We up the pay of plenty of players every year. Every school does

Literally something I’ve never stated

If there was an offer out there for what he thought he was worth when entering the portal, anyone with common sense knows that’s where he would be.

You’re assuming we weren’t the offer for what he thought he was worth

Exactly. Anything that happens now in college football is just that. Bidness. Glad Arion is back. Deserves to finish his college career here. But let’s not misconstrue how he came back. He wasn’t getting the NFL evals that he expected and decided the money was OK in college. He’s probably getting less than he was but that’s just bidness too.

Don’t forget he quit on his teammate to get ready for the draft to now pull out of it..
