2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

Really like our o-line depth compared to the rest of the league. 4 returning starters, and you add Haslam and Williams who were two guys a lot of sec programs wanted. Hopefully Nic Moore, J Heard, Ogumoro keep on developing this year.
Ogumoro is my pick to be an absolute beast in the next couple years

Which one of you brain surgeons did this..?

I am a certified rocket surgeon, and I can confidently say it was not me.

Also that is a horrific take from whoever posted that lol. Other than missing on a high end QB, we've shored up a LOT of positions of need, especially on defense. I've been just as concerned about the QB situation as anyone, but it is still foolish for media members and social media pages to act like we have zero talent at QB on the roster. GMac was a 5 star at 1 point, and Brandon always was.

Trending with Tulane RB and App State Safety per AP

Would leave us with CB QB and DT
CB @MarcoVol just confirmed

So really just QB and DT

With the announcement of the Tulane kid and the confirmation of gmac as QB1

@SmyrnaATLVolisback and @TrippieRedd will be forming the:
Stupid Portal Adds Don't Excite - (SPADE) collective

they're taking donations now.

Top ten recruiting class number 3 in highest avg grade in portal so know talent at all .Nico was a stick man and we made it to the playoffs so I trust Gmac can take us there if our defense is 50 percent better people forget two field goals away from being in the playoffs this year
We dont have a DL like that one anymore

These guys are small

If Aaron Scott signs, are you going to say the same thing? It's not a guarantee he'll be anything other than CB3 as well. Metcalf has 3 years left and they need the depth. I trust this staff 1000% more on evals than the last one.
The eval for TJ was a brother of someone they want.

Scott would compete with Poteat and he will be working with his old position and the DC hes under. Im fine with a high upside risk. Relying on TJ is just a risk

TJ is the safety dude. I don't think you know what you're talking about. They aren't relying on his brother for anything but depth🤦‍♂️

With roster limits expanded and scholly limits pretty much accounted for (I think?), big opportunity for Heupel to make the portal his ally by being aggressive and having a sense of urgency. He got very lucky to get the guys he did late in the cycle and have them largely work out (hood, thomas, Pendleton, moe, aguilar). We might not have been bowl eligible without them. I trust the staffs evals and I hope they go out and get all the veteran guys they need to weather injuries and finish games next year that they couldn’t this year.

PORTAL NEEDS (updates as we hear of current roster developments):

1a. Multiple Interior DL: ✅❌
- It all starts up front in this league. Gotta own the LOS. preferably both a nose tackle and DT type of starter quality are needed.
1b. Multiple Edge/LEO: ✅✅
- went from not really needing more edge to not having anyone besides our freshmen incoming class. We need MULTIPLE certified dudes here. It’s a cornerstone piece of Jim Knowles defense. I’m not sure how we f’ed this, but we need solutions BAD.
2. Multiple Safeties: ✅✅
-
at least one immediate starter would be nice (with Knowles in fold, look for multiple transfers at this position to pair with farooq)
3. Veteran Qb: ❌
-
to push competition for tor even win the starting job (if JA does not come back).
4. Multiple CB and/or Star: ✅ ✅
- be curious how Knowles recruits the defensive backfield, expecting more safety types than corners, but the corners must be top flight as they will be required to cover man down field or crash the line and tackle on any given play.
5. Defensive End: ❌
-
who is replacing Tyre West/Dom Bailey? That’s some quality production needing replacing. Some speculation that Hobbs may assume this role in Knowles defense.
6. LB: ✅
-
Probably will let Knowles look for a veteran LB to replace Carter and help install his defense. They like the rest of the room I believe, and Inge is staying on. Underperformance this year was most due to pressure put on them from a bad DL front (scheme-wise - thanks Timmy B) and poor safety play (thanks again Timmy). This in addition to his LEO (is this player on roster?) and center field safety (and other DBs) will be primary targets.
7. OT (with Heard transferring) ✅
8. C/OG (if moe/pendleton go - neither have left but with satterwhite and others in the two deep leaving, expecting we’ll take one here) ✅
9. RB (with Lewis transfering out) ❌
10. Kicker (Max got the git shirt) ✅
11. Miscellaneous Special Teams Help ✅

As confident as I’m sure CJH is in our young guys, I will be concerned if we take less than 8-10 10-12 13-15 portal players across the various needs we have. Any less and I’ll be worried we’re a couple injuries away from another 8-5 or worse season.

Current Roster on Scholly Transferring Out:

QB Jake Merklinger
RB Peyton Lewis
WR Amari Jefferson
TE Jack Van Doseleer
OT Lance Heard
C William Satterwhite

OL Ayden Bussell
OL Max Anderson
OT Bennett Warren
OT Brian Grant
DL Trevor Duncan
DT Jamal Wallace
DE Kellen Lindstrom
DL Jayden Loftin
DL Josh Schell
Edge Caleb Herring
Edge Jordan Ross

Edge Emanuel Okoye
LB Arion Carter
LB Brendan Anes
CB Rickey Gibson
DB Marcus Goree
DB Colin Brazzell
DB Kaleb Beasley
ATH Boo-Hoo carter
K Max Gilbert

^ I have bolded the above that were in the starting lineup or two deep, denoting that their either their production or simply their position is one we will need to go get a difference maker at to replace them with.

**Note** A pundit (don’t remember which, probably AP) said word was we would lose a lot to the portal this year, but that initial word was not many would be ones we’d be sad to see go, similar to last year. That would be good news if we capitalize and fill the roster with upgrades at positions that experience attrition. Bad news if we don’t. Let’s not get too off track lamenting over “development.”That’ll be $9.95

Confirmed Notable Losses to Draft/Grad:

QB Joey Aguilar (?)
WR Chris Brazzell
RB Star Thomas
TE Miles Kitzelmann
DE Tyre West
DL Dominic Bailey
DT Jaxon Moi
DT Bryson Eason
Edge Joshua Josephs
CB Jermod McCoy
CB Colton Hood
CB Jalen McMurray
S Andre Turrentine

^ All in the starting rotation. Basically half the starting roster.

Biggest difference is we had legit gorillas on the OL in 2024. We were also like 3 deep on the entire DL.

We don’t have that this year.

Heard: Gorilla
Karic: Gorilla
Cooper: Toy Gorilla
Spraggins: Ate the Gorilla
Campbell: Gorilla

Bailey / West
Thomas / Simmons
Eason / Lott / Hobbs
Pearce / Josephs / Herring
😂Come on, man. You're being intentionally negavtive now by revising history. Heard, Spraggins, and Campbell all sucked in 2024. Hell, Campbell couldn't get through a game without getting benched for the former walkon and when he was in there, he was good for a couple of backbreaking holding calls.

Our best performing Olineman in 2024 was Andrej Karic, an undersized Guard, and Cooper Mays, an undersized Center.

Not one of those guys is in the NFL.

If the staff really is comfortable with riding with GMac, then I wish we could have taken some of that Leavitt money to beef up the offense just a bit more. It’s not a necessity, but as much as I love Bishop it would make his life and GMac’s life easier if we got a true game breaker at RB to split reps. Or Horton from Alabama as another receiving option with experience knowing that Keys may not be ready immediately to contribute since true freshman WRs don’t typically produce much in this offense.

Again, not a necessity, we’re pretty deep on offense. But anything to give GMac the best chance possible to succeed…
