He was a true freshman and those stats are all from the bowl game. We will he a RS freshman and was a 4 star out of high school
No unless the books are wrong he played 9 games with 8 total tackles. I'm nust curious how these kids get these high values off these stats. Not ripping on him.

No idea if we’re better or not on defense but we will have players at all levels that have familiarity with Knowles defense. Should be a much faster transition. We’ve gotten better in my opinion at almost every position that we were struggling at.

I'm guessing they used him mainly on passing downs as a situational pass rusher. That would explain the low tackle numbers. Kinda hard to get tackles if you're mostly playing on passing downs.

What I do know is he had the highest PFF pass rush grade of any freshman in the country. So despite not recording many sacks or tackles for loss he was generating pressure at least according to PFF. From the few highlights I've seen he looks super explosive with long arms. Exactly how you want a edge rusher to look. Also given he's a true freshman he should continue to get better. Thus, its not hard to see why he's so highly regarded.

While Coleman has done a great job of making a name for himself, there one very important aspect that nobody has talked about. He never played defense in high school until his senior year. Before that, he was a seldomly used quarterback. AFter Coach Matt Richardson took over Warren G. Harding High School's football after Chaz's junior season (early January of 2024), he immediately starting building up & promoting Chaz as an edge. While he remained WGH's quarterback through his senior year, he also played outside linebacker & punter.

As an '02 alum of WGH, I graduated with Maurice Clarett (Ohio State) & David Herron Jr. (Michigan State; NFL) while also going to high school with Prescott Burgess (Michigan; NFL), Mario Manningham (Michigan; Super Bowl XLVI "hero"), and numerous other then-eventual Division I college football players. All of the aforementioned guys were receiving hype before the end of their sophomore years as most colleges have a great idea of who they want relatively early in one's HS career. With Chaz, all of his hype came either right before or during his senior year.

Even as a big supporter of Coleman, I understand that some question his hype as his true freshman numbers at Penn State don't exactly jump of f the page. Again, not only was this only his second season playing on the defensive side of the ball, it was actually his first playing defensive end. As many signs as he showed this past fall, I promise you that he'll only continue to get exponentially better.

In case you haven't seen him, these are the football & basketball highlight films that I made of Coleman's senior year at WGH. IN fact, I've pushed the idea of him also playing college basketball. Of course, you must excuse the Penn State thumbnail, lol.

Welcome to the board and thanks for the info! Most of us here are quite optomistic about our defensive makeover.

By the way, my wife went to Mooney and then YSU.

Nice! Mooney had some insane football teams in the 2000’s! They fell off for a while, but they now have a brand new coaching staff that has them headed in the right direction.
