Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I just don't think 1 game in is enough to make this statement.

Losing on the road to open the season to Arkansas isn't surprising. Why?

1. Even before Cal that's an arena Vols/Barnes don't win at often
2. Cal returned nearly 50% of his production in minutes/points from last year
3. Adding to that returning production was the 4th overall rated class which includes 2 top 15 5 stars

With those 3 things taken into account, I am more confident in saying Arkansas will be a top 3 SEC team.

The good news our next 4 games are all winnable.
3 at home (Texas, A&M and Kentucky) and the road game is at Florida
It’s not one game for me.

And I am not really even comparing them to Arkansas.

Just using the old eye test. Doesn’t look good.

Wow. Some idiots deciding they don't want Ty Simpson because he went to Alabama. What is this, Middle School? Would we have turned down Caleb Downs, how about Ryan Williams if he's available or the 240 lb running back they misused? I don't know if Simpson would be a good fit or not, but where he went to school is the least of this staff's concerns, I can guarantee you that.
How bout that bama back Alvin Kamara

Team shot 49.2% FG and 38.5% 3PT... this year the struggle has been FT line. You can't win many road games if you shoot 52.2% from the line and have 12 turnovers.

Ament shoots his average from the line (74%) and his points go from 13 to over 16 with the potential for more (he missed a couple front end 1 & 1s).

My biggest worry, which has been the same all off-season is ball handlers. We have JG and then a big drop off...Burg is a 23 year old Sophomore and plays like he's never seen the court. I didn't think Euro ball was so different.
I said in a previous post that the biggest issues are Free Throws and Turnovers.

Things you can control.

Plus, Ty’s younger brother may be better than Ty. If that helps get you an in to Graham then sounds good to me.

For me he doesn't look athletic...which doesn't mean he can't become a great player. He just has to find his game. Guys like Jokic, Sabonis, & Luka are all considered unathletic and they put up great numbers in the NBA.

With Ament, his shooting % have to improve to really become the sort of player we hope he can be. I think the coaches and teammates see him doing that in practice, but until he translates it to gameday he's going to feel disappointing.

We have one in Perlotte. He stood out when he saw the field. Continuously was around the ball and brought the hammer.

Spillman as well I think...going to be interesting to see if Knowles can get more out of the talent that stays.

So I saw where the Seahawks were smoking cigars after winning last night

I have seen way more cigar smoking across sports the last, let's say three years dating back to approximately 10/15 2022.

Ya know what else I've seen way more of since 10/15 2022

Stormings of the fields and courts!

Sorry, yall aren't as cool as us (we will be cool again, NEXT YEAR)

Anyone dispute this?

I agree. It’s a lack of dynamic ability or explosiveness in his game that makes it frustrating.

I believed the hype and thought we were getting a top 5 nba pick who could shoot and create his own shot anytime we needed some offense. Like some of the other 5 star freshman this season.

If he is like jokic or Luka then he really needs to change his position and add some physicality to his game.

Every report that I saw said he’d be a great nba player eventually but he would need development to grow into that in college. His draft potential was based on potential and not going to be based on college results.

He’s been great if you compare him to other UT freshmen- but if you’re expectations were off then you are likely frustrated.

Heck, even Will Warren was saying this before season.

We’ve had awesome pg play for several years with defensive studs. Right now we have one primary ball handler and subpar defense- and we can’t shoot free throws. We’re going to have to grow up over conference play but that’s also why we were ranked in the bottom of the T25 to start the season.

No what we need is a Daniel Bituli, a senior who can line these young ones up, who's mean and can run and tacklez
He stayed hurt a lot, would much rather have a Al Wilson type. And a few Westmoreland and Raynochs to go along as well. I like Perlotte and Spillman a lot but they have to both keep getting better and we need a few more to go with them. GBO

Lol how many Al Wilson's are there? Really not being an ass. There's a reason why his jersey is in the CFB hall, and maybe, in NFL hall.

Did Heupel and Ty’s dad make up? Wasn’t there a big issue?
I don’t think Heup is mad about it. He has other things to think about. But that doesn’t mean he wants to look at the haughty dad’s face. Who would?
