2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

I honestly think there are two types of recruits we should go after in HS:

1. Guys who can make an instant impact the second they step on campus.

2. Developmental guys who don't have a ton of interest from good teams in the P4, who are brought in explicitly to fill out the roster.

Anyone in between feels just like a waste of money and effort. Example that comes to mind atm is Deuce Knight at Auburn. Yes you've got the coaching change but what a waste of money.

On our end, Faizon or George won't be here this time next year... Depending on the transfer situation George may not make it that long. Waste of money.

Just can't afford to keep pouring development effort and NIL into kids that never contribute IMO.

This is assuming they don't do anything to fix the sport. As a fan, I'm not in love with the idea of just trotting out a full team of one year rentals every year as I'm sure no one is. I just think it makes the most competitive and financial sense at the moment.
This is especially true if we are going to continue to insist that the vast majority of our HS guys don’t get any snaps until they’re 3rd year.

I get what you are saying but you cant be everything in this era of college football. I think its looking at the current composition of the team and seeing what you can morph that into in 1 year. The more you morph the more risk that comes with it. Everyone is pointing to Texas Tech and Ole Miss, but there are also examples it doesnt work out like Florida St and LSU
True , but there is one guaranteed way for it to not work out , and that’s settling to go for being ok.

Can’t reach the top unless you’re trying to reach the top.

Heard he's either asked for more $$ and could possibly leave.
Hope is just rumor
Also heard coach ET will not be returning.
Maybe I should delete this. Not sure on the reliability
Not a fan of this, if true. What has he done to deserve more money again this year? Let him go and spend the money on someone actually productive. This is one thing Heup is gonna have to learn. It’s cutthroat now. Can’t afford to waste money on potential, or kids who can’t stay on the field or constantly want to hold the team hostage. I would understand him wanting more money if he had played and had even a decent year this year.

This! Especially if you have boosters willing to pony up the $$ to upgrade everywhere. It's like having the option to have someone buy you a Kia or a Mercedes. If the option is there, you absolutely go big.

If paying top dollar $4MM+ for a QB affects our ability to load up on defense the we are in the same boat. I'm personally not high on any of these "top portal QBs" anyway. Plus Ohio St, TT, and Miami made the playoffs. I'll take that, better than 8-4. Gotta get in to have a chance.
Balance. That will get you in the playoffs.
It will also give you a better chance of winning in the playoffs.

Ohio st- they got what? 4 first rounders on D just this year and loaded,
Best tandem of WR in the country, QB that completed 78% of passes,
Yet only could get 50+- a couple yards vs Indiana and Miami.

Probably a good decision. Very curious and excited to see who Knowles dismisses and hires.
Someone with better insider knowledge than me can answer this or give more insight but basically ET has been the corner coach the last 2 years. Guys love him,he's made a big impact. He works more day to day with corners than coach Nez.
Can anyone confirm this?
Also could be with coach ET not being retained might impact Rickey?
Trying to make sense of all this

Earnest Thomas. DB analysts and basically the corners coach last 2 years
Damn, what has Martinez been doing? The Martinez fanclub give him credit for Hood,McCoy,Redmond and Gibson. Who has WM been coaching? Definitely time to fully upgrade the entire secondary coaching staff.

Same here, I thought Martinez was the one who coached the corners. Definitely learned something new today.

I had to Google him. So he's at Ohio St. So does he replace Thomas/Martinez or both? Or does Knowles hire a 2nd Corner guy to replace Martinez? This is exciting!
I guess just Thomas. Don't know if coach Nez is staying.
I'm hoping a real insider can flesh this out.
My understanding was that coach Nez was kinda overall secondary but that ET was strictly corners.
ET will not be returning and Michael Hunter Jr is taking over for DB's. Not sure just corners or both safeties and corners.
Can anyone confirm if coach Nez helped or coached safeties too?
I'm really confused on this

Miami is winning with defense. They paid Beck $4MM for him not to lose them the game, that's it so far. Oregon beat TT bc of their defense. #1 offense in the SEC and we lost 5 games.

Get a competent QB from the portal and build a 2024 elite defense. If our budget is $12MM than get all positions of need including top QB.
