Cook, who spent two years at TCU before transferring to Jacksonville State for his junior season, made that move pay off in a big way while rushing for an FBS-best 1,659 yards and 16 touchdowns, along with 30 catches for 286 yards in 13 games.

He also led the FBS in rushing attempts (295) and yards from scrimmage (1,945) for the 9-5 Gamecocks of Conference USA.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound playmaker was named the Conference USA Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. He earned first-team all-conference honors, was named an AP All-American and was also a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award.

Really don’t understand the portal player rankings. Dude lead the nation in rushing yet is a 3* and ranked in the 100’s in overall rankings. While you have guys with half his production ranked significantly higher.

He had a monster season at a really low level of competition. But he was at TCU for two years and sucked. So there's risk with him that he's only good when he's playing really bad competition and getting the ball every play.

Two different scenarios. Hardy was under recruited, started off at a small place, and then moved up. Cook started off at TCU, was not a good player there, then dropped down and dominated. He’s already been at a big school before and didn’t produce.

The staffs goal should he to pull a TX Tech with number 1 ranked portal class on D and fill in needs on O like RB, an OL, and maybe a QB that’s a lower price tag. Let Knowles spend the money and hopefully that was part of the negotiation, “we need the funds to overhaul this D in the portal”

For some perspective he was actually the leading rusher at TCU last year. They just had an astonishingly bad rushing game. He didn’t even break 4 YPC. Hoover must have covered up a bunch of sins.

I just get the feeling that he’s highly overvalued. I don’t think he improved that much in one season and his monster numbers are due to very poor competition and having the highest usage rate in the country. Watching his highlights, he gets caught from behind a lot on his big runs even at that level.

Not saying he’s not a take, but I don’t think he’s the level of player a lot of us think he is. If Bishop went down to that level and got the ball every snap, I think he’d put up similar stats.

But at some point you have to trust your recruited players.

Bring in Smothers but feed Baker and Morris too.
