2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

So….can someone tell me why DeRail Sims suddenly sucks? Last I checked our RB production has been pretty solid the last couple years and did a decent job in pass pro this year. Not saying he’s a world beater but coaching RB’s is about as simplistic as it gets on a coaching staff.
24’ season: Ran Sampson into the ground because we had no one ready behind him, thus getting him Injured going into OSU. Although it was his 1st year on the Job thus he shouldn’t get all the blame.

25’ Recruiting: Missed on out #1 Shekia Mills-Knight. Then had to Fight Tooth and Nail to get Duane morris to not Go to a west coast school because if I remember correctly Sims didn’t make him feel like a priority.

25’ transfer portal: wasn’t aggressive in the portal and decided to get a mid-level ACC running back and stay relatively pat, despite having very little proven production on the roster

25’ season: was the weakest run game in the heupel era. I personally didn’t agree with how we rotated our running backs felt like someone would have it going early and then go to the bench for whole quarters. Didn’t seem like anyone particularly progressed that much outside of maybe Bishop.

26’ recruiting: missed out on our top target Hiter and then was unable to circle back and get anyone else. Was unable to flip latmier from Wisconsin but WVU.

At best, he’s been a very mediocre coach and very replaceable. If he can’t get DGG then I really don’t see any reason to keep them after next year

Star Thomas was most certainly not a mid-level ACC running back. He was impressive in the small sample he was given. Best spin since Monterio Hardesty.

Thomas was indeed a mid tier ACC back. In 2024 he finished 11th in the ACC in rushing yards and 18th in ypc. That is the very definition of mid tier.

He is a good secondary back, but he isn't someone you want to rely on to be a primary back.

The Duke results that year was more of how bad their Oline was. Worst in the conference and one of the worst Lines in College Football. Jeanty couldn't have got 1000 yards with that Oline.

That is beside the point. He was indeed a mid-tier back in 2024, regardless how bad his OL was. That's not an indictment on his talent level, it's just an observation of his actual production.

And his perceived value in the portal certainly seems like teams viewed him as a mid-tier RB.

Really weird way to say he got Duane Morris’ commitment. Who cares what happened prior? He committed.

Statement still remains. Our room is just as loaded.

Staley
Matthews
Smith
RJ
Keys
King

Is a helluva room.

Also anxious to see how OSU’s WRs look (minus the obvious) without Hartline coaching them.

Very solid. Just think if we had the two who decommitted at the last minute. Wow. Still formidable talent and depth. We just need to keep everyone.

Ol stone hands still had the 7th most receiving yards in the SEC as a sophomore being a 3rd option. Yes, he needs to still work to get better. But acting like he isn't a good receiver is foolish.
Both can be true. He left a lot of meat on the bone. Players have to make plays, and there were several times this year when it was right there for him and he couldn't make the play. Who knows, he could make a Jalin Hyatt-like jump this offseason (although Hyatt's sophomote season was nowhere near as good as Matthews').

i didnt even say he was a bad receiver and that guy put those words in my mouth lol

i just said he left a ton on the field and has stone hands....which is true. It doesnt mean i dont want him here or something.

He was highly coveted and under ranked. If you didn’t see the talent he has this year, can’t help you. Couldn’t care less about the ranking.
Solid player for sure.

I am curious if he sticks around long enough to be the guy here.

If we portal a RB with more than 1 year to go with Bishop, then Morris is right back to being the 3rd back.

Bring in DGG and retain that portal back. Again, he’s probably right back at 3rd.

I’m HOPING we get a somewhat alright senior RB to add to the group so we can prevent something like this.

Even if that were true, it again doesn't address the fact that the was from TN. We didn't even turn on attention to him till late in the process.

And no, I certainly didn't see the top end talent he has in the 30 carries he had between ETSU, UF, UAB where he averaged barely 4 yards a carry.
