2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

I don't think we have anyone at RB that makes a defense nervous. I say upgrade if you can....and that applies to every position.
I say spend wisely. We have RBs that have proven they can get it done. We can't say the same at safety or CB. We know we need a QB and DL depth. IF we have enough money left over, then sure, upgrade where you can, but cover your needs before thinking of luxuries.

Thomas is out of eligibility and Lewis kinda sucks. Definitely a need.
I disagree about Lewis. Bishop/Lewis/Morris That's 3 deep. Then there's Baker. We'll see what he can do.

We have backs that can get it done. We have far more pressing needs that have to be addressed. With a good defense this year, we're in the playoffs. If we don't fix the defense with the portal, we're in the same boat next season.

Correct…🤷🏼

Not sure what point you’re trying raise. Since the argument of Hazle is a better OC than Briles by a sizeable amount, the tale of the tape doesn’t show the same picture. Hazle had a full 15-18 months to get a 5 star ready to start and a 5th year QB while Briles had a 3 star that was in mid 600-800 overall recruiting rankings lol

Last year our best receiver was Donte Thornton, with 661 yards, 6 tds and 26 receptions (WR1). This year Matthews had 770 yards, 4 TDs and 50 receptions (as WR 2/3). If I’m him I’m pointing to that and saying “i think i deserve a little bump in pay”

Matthews needs to get paid for the sake he will get offers elsewhere. Keeping him for continuity sake is reason enough to pay him.

Maybe some incentives for less drops! 🤪🤪🤪

The point I’m making is that regardless of Nico’s star rating, he was dog water, so the stat comparison doesn’t paint the whole picture.

Heupel and Golesh got duped with their eval of Nico. I know a guy who knows a gal who knows a guy who said Golesh texted Heupel after working out Nico after the ink was dry but before he got to campus and it read, “We’re f*****”.

Proof’s in the pudding. Couldn’t beat out Joe, couldn’t hit the deep ball, playbook got condensed to run mostly, etc.

Can’t give Halzle a grade given Nico’s shortcomings.

Nico wasn’t exactly terrible in his first year as starter.

The biggest failure is he had enough of a foundation and first year that didn’t really need to tweak or rebuild a lot under Heupel. He and his daddy mistook his rookie year as he can do better and play better ANYWHERE and he went to a coaching staff who had no idea what they are doing with QB development and to be honest development of any position.

Joey Aguilar isn’t having anything close to the season he had at Tennessee had he been starting at UCLA.

It’s very likely that Nico would have progressed and developed with another year under Heupel because the downfield passing game was the glaring issue with his mechanics.

However there was no salvaging the relationship with how public everything was solely from Nico’s camp. Heupel had zero choice but to tell them to kick rocks.

Maybe. We’ll never know.

Another point is that Joe’s overthrow problem didn’t resolve while here(maybe that’s on Halzle), so I’m not much of a believer Nico would have made it happen this year had he not transferred.

Heup has had end of season meetings with players and they are open discussions about where players are, what they need to do and if they are looking at the portal.
I would rather players looking at the portal to not practice and play in the bowl game. In or out. Make up your mind and if leaving, stay away from the locker room.

The issue with Nico’s game was he could run when he wanted to so he didn’t have to be a big passing QB like our offense was this year.

However, the main takeaway with him was downfield passing accuracy. I have zero doubt that the caliber of Heupel could have tweaked the offense and development to fix the issue.

Nico clearly regressed going to UCLA and that staff. I doubt he would have regressed under Heupel in his 3rd year in the system. Not because I think he is some stud but because i think Heupel is competent.

Just a reminder as we have discussed portal safeties, especially Jakobe.
Miami let 4 teams score over 20 this year and highest was 26 pts. None over 30.
Banks let 7 teams score 30+. Who u want your son to play for..

Yeah Miamis defense just won a road playoff game. Very impressive. Don’t think Beck broke 100 yards. Their RB did look like Travis Stephens in Gainesville though.

Marcel Reed aka Josh Pate's Heisman pick

he is terrible every time i watch him play......dude has no idea whats going on out there. Has to be close to 20 turnovers this yr with the fumbles + INTs combined.

Last two years of QB’s under Briles vs Hazle. But sure, Hazle is some world beater at OC.

Briles QB Production

Pass Yards - 7421

Total Touchdowns - 62

Hazle QB Production

Pass Yards - 6,060

Total Touchdowns - 49
SEC schedule vs Big 12? Switch conferences and the stats switch as well. Not comparing apples to apples.
