At my local krogers in Mt Juliet tonight my checkout cashier we got to talking football and he played for MTSU last season. He hit the latest portal and will be a Vol next season. He said he will be a starter and he plays slot and receiver. He is a freshman

Hmm, I can't find an MTSU freshman WR who has declared for the portal. Looking at their 2025 roster, I don't see anyone who jumps out at me.

I know what color the penalty flag is, and I know what color the challenge flag is. I'm assuming the flag I'm throwing here is brown...

Looks like he walked on, earned a scholarship & started 3 games late in season. Not bad

There are plenty of TN guys who fly under the radar, some walk on and earn their spot relatively quickly--Devaun Swafford is a dude who comes to mind. Two way player in HS, didn't get much spotlight but was clearly a D1 guy.

DeSean Bishop seems to be a player who wants to be a Vol, walked on and became the starting running back. Hope they have given him a good NIL deal.

Yep. We have a WR corps that is right up there with some of our best of the 80s and early 90s. Manning made that mid 90s group highly productive but none really flourished at the next level. There absolutely isn't any mid major portal player that is cracking out rotation
