They can't wait on that though can they? Seems like they need to go ahead and find some portal help even if they plan on giving G-Mac a shot. And it would be a first if they start the true freshman they have coming in.

Its the dumbest thing. They need a definitive answer from Aguilar. Either he is going to pursue the legal course to get another year and we continue on with the bowl practice like he will be here or he is not going to pursue legal route and Heupel rips bandaid off and benches him for Gmac who is guaranteed to be here next year.

This refusal to get the other guys ready who 10000% have years of eligibility left is just asinine.

Joey is already pursuing the legal course. He joined the Pavia lawsuit weeks ago. He's just waiting on the ruling.

Do you not think everyone in that locker room knows what he wants to do. Do you not think that every coach is talking with the ncaa and lawyers trying to get him another year if that’s what he wants. Of coarse they know. He’s not leading anyone on except the media which will turn everything into a circus

It’s very simple. Heupel’s job depends on future success. If Joey isn’t gonna be here after this season, rip the bandaid off and play for the future. Especially since we have been playing meaningless games of no relevance since the OU loss.

Going 9-4 with a bowl win with Aguilar and him not being here in 2026 is 10000 times worse than going 8-5 with Gmac getting a month of first team reps and entire game as the starter.

No one with a brain is gonna be giving Heupel a legitimate excuse if QB play is shaky next year and he says “well we didn’t have opportunities to get these guys experience before this season”

How good could this guy be with a full off season to train and know the system even better? Look how productive he was with a handful of weeks- dude almost beat Georgia. He’s roughly 230 now- let’s pack on 5lbs of leg power get him to around 235-240.

Imagine an entire winter, spring and then summer camp. Year 2 in Hueps system.

We need this guy as we encounter the gauntlet that is next years schedule. We also need GMac to bulk up and grow bc injuries can happen.

he is not returning and they are working the portal

Because they are forced to.

No offense but if it’s clear Aguilar isn’t committed to pursuing another year, he shouldn’t be taking another first team rep in bowl practice or in the bowl game.

He made a windfall in a short amount of time and we thank him for his service here, but there is no program long term benefit to him continuing to be #1 in practice or bowl game at Tennessee.

Because we refuse to get the QB with many years left here in the final month / weeks of the season, Heupel has no choice but to go find a portal QB for next year.

I understand all that...

Before the transfer portal - before NIL - before the idea of opting out - the players (including the QB) that got us to the bowl game started that game. And we survived the next season.

This idea of kicking players that have a desire to play in their last game is crazy! Let them play if they want to play.

I go back to the 2016 Music City Bowl game, which I attended and we won, there was no reason for Derek Barnett to play but he did. In that game he broke the all-time career sack record for Tennessee. That occurred late in the 4th quarter. That wouldn't have happened if some of you would have your way and have him not practice or play in his last game as a Tennessee Volunteer!

Do you seriously believe what you said? This one game is not going to make a difference one way or the other on what happens next year. It just isn't.

Gmac or even Merk getting a month of practice as the starter along with an entire bowl game is meaningful and gets a jump start on spring ball.

I have said this ever since the season ended after the loss to Oklahoma and we got eliminated from playoff contention.

Heupel will have no legitimate excuse of inexperience at QB if Gmac is the starter and plays like crap next year.

It’s really that simple.
