With Star Thomas being out of eligibility do we rely on Bishop and Lewis/Morris to lead the way, or do we go after another RB in the portal?

It seems like people are starting to give up on the idea of Lewis becoming RB1 after Bishop and I tend to agree. He seems to lack the ability to make guys miss. I'm not sure if it's a vision issue or if he just lacks some wiggle or what, but he averaged a full yard and half lower than Thomas in ypc and almost 2 yards lower than Bishop. People were raving about his track speed when we signed him, but it hasn't translated to long runs. And he's not been a threat in the passing game so I'm not sure what he brings to the table at RB.

Side note: If he sees this I hope he knows that I'm just an ignorant aging man who didn't play football past peewee and I only come here to pass time when work is slow. There is no substitute for hard work and with God all things are possible.

Continuing on... does anyone else think he'd be a heck of a linebacker?

You try and see if Savion Hiter wants to re-evaluate his Michigan commitment, while looking to the portal. Evan Dickens rushed for 1300 at Liberty and he entered recently. He played two seasons at Georgia Tech before going to Liberty.
The name Jahmyr Gibbs comes to the mind. Y'all remember him, right?

Bishop just rushed for 1000 yards (almost) so he is good. We definitely need a faster back with good hands to compliment him and Lewis isn't that. May be Duane Morris can step up or may be a good guy shows up in portal. We are taking 20+ kids in portal due to 105 limit this year so room for all.

Don't forget Justin Baker. I don't think he entered the portal šŸ˜€

Don't be surprised if Lewis portals.

Yes, will need a portal RB or two..

Completely biased but I want the hometown hero, Bishop. Once he went over the top this year plus considering how hard he runs… I’m sold.

People always talk about wanting players who love the program and tradition. Well Bishop is him.

I want him with the rock in his hand as much as possible.

lol, minus Hiter. They aren’t jumping bishop. What makes you think he’s number 2?
Bishop is a good man of faith that is patient with good balance. Not great at anything. He’s a good, solid back. I would put him behind Wright, Kelly, Kamara, Lane, Hardesty, Coker, Riggs, Gray, Chandler. Better though than Marlin Lane, Ramon Neal, Small.

Bishop will be hard to unseat as RB1. Freshman RB's generally struggle with pass protection and anyone already on campus won't likely unseat him or they would have already done it. If we hit a home run at RB in the portal? Maybe.

I never said a top running back, lol. Not sure where the faith part falls into play here. I’m just saying it’s going to be hard to push him out of that number 1 spot.

Lewis has had every opportunity to show if he has ā€œit.ā€ He doesn’t. We had a better line this year than last. There’s no back over there that is close to Sampson. Bishop has worked his butt off and will be a help. RB is a position where freshmen can help, and Morris didn’t do much. They need to find a quality back.

I think our run blocking was better last year and our pass blocking is better this year. Now I could be wrong and it was really just the pure greatness of Sampson

Bishop is a solid # 2 back. I think Morris, Hiter, or a big time portal back will be #1
They better get their pass pro down or they won’t see the field much, let alone take Bishop’s job. I remember Sampson in his first year almost got Hendon killed. Didn’t see him much after that

Seems to me like Lewis has all the speed of Sampson, with more size. With another Spring and off season, he can be even stronger, and can be more confident to play more decisively and thus faster. I would not count him out quite yet. šŸ¤”

Sampson is not a burner, good burst but top speed is lacking. Isn’t a true home run threat like Coker or Wright were. Lewis just doesn’t look like a natural running back. More like a linebacker
