2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

He left for money. That’s it. He wanted to stay. 100%.
Some will stick with that as the only reason and that’s fine. Fact is there’s more to it. He almost quit football while at UT due to frustration. Straight from his mouth. It was a dream school for him, then he got there and it was a bad match. It took a 4 hour car ride and talk with his mom at 2 AM to convince him not to quit and instead to hit the portal after the season.

I think you’re confusing him with Forrest Gump.

He almost quit bc things weren’t going his way?

Who does he think he is, Notre Dame?

For the record he was one of my fav players in last year’s team. Not bc he played awesome or anything but bc it was fun watching him hit people.

he talked about this on the record with a Miami area reporter at some point recently. Like I mentioned, people saying he wanted to stay and it was all about money are flat wrong and have zero real info. He almost quit the sport. He’s on record saying it. That’s far from 100% wanted to stay. Quite the opposite.

Almost bought a shrimp boat as I understand it…

You said he 100% wanted to stay and you couldn’t be more wrong. He talks about being so miserable at his dream school that he almost quit football.

Dear adult man named “Skooter”, I do not have plans to watch a thirty minute PR Miami fan podcast to hear some reframing of the facts. I was around when the actual event happened. I heard firsthand what was going on then. It was also reported by several reputable outlets that he brought the Miami offer back to the coaches and asked them to match it because he wanted to stay. In hindsight, I think most of us wish we had paid, and he stayed. He was an essential piece, and we did not successfully replace it. It seems “you heard it directly from him” turns out to be you heard a Miami podcast. Whether he did or didn’t drive around in a car for hours or he called his mom at 2am is immaterial to the factual reality of what happened. He brought the Miami offer to the coaches and said he wanted to stay. It couldn’t be much clearer than that.

That’s my name because I putt from everywhere. And I’ll take the word of the kid as he described his dispappointment and mental state while you mentioned Forrest Gump and put yourself in rooms you weren’t in. It’s all good.

Can both be true? Who says he didn’t have the same issues at Miami, albeit with on the field success? Maybe he was going to leave anyways and brought the offer to it to leverage Miami for more money? Not sure any of us will ever know all the details.

That’s all I’ve said is it was more than all about getting NIL money. There were multiple factors including nil he had no idea he would be getting when he almost quit. He says himself he wasn’t happy and as down as he’d been in his career. Those aren’t the words of a player who wanted to stay.

Didn’t Thomas have a girlfriend at UT who was a cheerleader? And that relationship ended? Pretty sure I remember hearing that. Someone feel free to correct me if that’s wrong but I seem to remember hearing that factored into his decision to transfer.

I’ve been wondering if it’s dawned on him he’s not going to win a championship of any kind there. He might like the idea of Knowles coming to The Hill.
