The Atlanta Braves Thread

As someone mentioned on another site, we might want to wait to bring the pitch forks on AA making these smaller moves. We complain all the time about how this team has no depth. And now that he's actually bringing in guys that are really good depth players, we bash him for it.

But given the **** show that was last off-season, it is hard to give him credit.
BJ Upton 5/75 is still the highest paid free agent in Braves history. It’s all small moves and he all know he wasn’t brought in for depth. He will play a lot.

This is a corporation. It’s not about winning, just making money. You don’t make money in FA.
Yes and no. You bring in the right player and he pays for himself and then some. I mean, they said the dudgers made the entirely of Ohtani’s contract in year one. Allegedly.

I'm not saying I expect us to sign a big name FA. But we're reportedly still looking for a SS, SP, and RP. Maybe AA doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt. But I'm willing to believe the reports for now. Especially since these reports are coming from reporters outside the Braves circle.

If we don't make any other significant moves, then yeah these moves are mediocre at best.

Especially when you just gave your 4th outfielder $23 million

Spend or don’t be upset when real fans get fed up
I’ve posted it before - Contracting last year’s payroll and running complete slop out at SS and the bullpen made my season ticket group give the middle finger when they hit us with a 30% increase and wanted a 3 year commitment.

Yaz did have a 126 wRC+ vs RHP last season. That would have tied him for 3rd on the team last year. His 120 career mark vs RHP would also rank him 4th on the team (if you don't count Drake since he was a rookie).

As long as we limit the number of PAs against LHP he should be a quality player for us.

That’s the problem. We are constantly trying to piece together players rather than just paying a complete player.
Agreed, but something like 80% of pitchers are RHP. If we're going to sign a platoon only player, at least it's the strong side of a platoon. And at least he's a decent fielder.
