I like this guy but something to add the Big Ten stats is enhanced by the conferences inability to score points. In 2022, 3 of the top 4 defenses were all Big Ten with Air Force being the Fourth. His last 3 defenses as DC:
2025 - Washington - 19th
2022 - Illinois - #1
2021 - Illinois - 29th
Seems like he figured something out as a playcaller and does more with less![]()
you shouldn’t include the covid year, imo.Coaching Style and Impact
Walters runs versatile, player-owned schemes that prioritize bend-but-don't-break coverage and opportunistic pressure without over-relying on blitzes. His defenses thrive on turnovers—Illinois led FBS in INTs (2022)—and he's a master recruiter/developer of DBs and DLs, sending multiple players to the NFL (e.g., Witherspoon to Seahawks). Critics note occasional late-season dips (e.g., Missouri 2020: 106th in FEI), but his peaks are unmatched: only DC to vault a unit from 97th to #1 in scoring defense in two years. At 39, his Big Ten/SEC experience, youth, and ties to Heupel make him a hot commodity—recent buzz positions him as a "name to know" for Tennessee's DC search post-Tim Banks firing.
Nakos think we can go take anyone’s dude I love itNakos board:

Anybody but DegoSo, Jeremiyah Love is a Heisman finalist. What is the difference between his stats and Dylan Sampson’s from last year? Sampson played an SEC schedule. Love had 127 total rushing yards against Miami and A&M. He did have a receiving TD against A&M. Sampson had over 100 rushing yards in each game against UF, Bama, and UGA and 6 total TD’s.
