No, this is Walters first year at Washington. He was HC at Purdue, and DC @ Illinois and prior DC @ Missouri w/Heupel.

Thus far, I haven't been able to predict hires (including when Heupel was hired and the lady vol coach). I expect this hire to come out of left field. As for firing Banks, I won't 'boom' that. It needed to happen but let's just wait and see how it all works out.

I would hope so. I would expect initial reaction from some of our D players to hit the portal.
Easier to convince them to stay if they know who they will be playing for.
Or to get guys from the portal if they know who the DC will be.

Yes, needs to be quick. I would be surprised if this drags on for more than a day or two. I would imagine Heupel had sometime lined up before making this public.

I think he’s done being Coach Boom. He resigned his co-DC role at UGA to be an analyst. That tells me he doesn’t want to recruit and may not want to travel. He might have a son at Vandy (I can’t remember). But he’s the mold of guy you want: focused on fundamentals and assignments.

Players make DCs look smart or aggressive. Anybody good enough to get a D1 job can draw up a great blitz. But running it requires getting the right players, getting them to understand their role, and executing.
