Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

He certainly has talent but I don't think it's that superior to the talent we have. I would bet my annual salary that if he was our DC and Banks was theirs we would have been significantly better and Indiana wouldn't be in the playoffs. We probably have a good chance of being in the playoffs. They are fundamentally sound and elite in how they play. No way to prove it but they are the most fundamentally sound team I have seen on defense in a long time. They aren't wowing you with talent but with execution, Not saying they aren't talented but they aren't close to the talent level of OSU and Georgia and I would venture to guess the NFL draft will confirm that.
Indiana QB is a 1st round draft pick, other than that the rest are mid to late round talent.. NFL talent that is...

you could tell in the last couple games when Heup did his interviews during the games he was finally done with Banks and his defense.

dont know how to describe it but that guy just looked so pissed......rightfully so, it was a trash product to watch playing base vanilla defense against every single opponent with no adjustments.
I think it was Kentucky at halftime when I really noticed it.

even Clark Lea was running all kinds of packages and blitzes at us constantly with alot of the same players we had beaten the hell out of in years past. Point is coaching matters and playing 15 yards off everyone 90% of plays like Banks does is loser ****. Hes lucky Garner had developed solid DL esp in 2024.

wonder if new DC will have any say so with Heupel in keeping or getting rid of Willie
My gut tells me Heupel wants to win and win badly. Otherwise, keeping Banks for stability purposes was more in line with CJH’s character. I think this is a message to everyone saying we aren’t going to accept mediocrity anymore. So that tells me he’s going to let the new DC have a say. I’d wager we’ll keep some regardless, but my hope is no one is safe.

With the changes in college football…. you don’t have to be loaded with NFL talent. You can be loaded with junior/senior transfers that have proven to be above average college football. That has been Indianas approach.

Heupel is probably more annoyed than any of us with Banks.

You can say what you want about the offensive struggles, but the offense was a top 5 unit nationally all year and we are headed to the Music City Bowl. That tells you all you need to know really.
This times a 100000

Heupel struck gold with JA out of the portal and it was all there for the taking and the defense for whatever reasons (some valid, some not) just crapped the bed.
