hmmm.Saturday marked the first time in the history of the SEC championship that any team had been shut out through the first three quarters.
Needing to show even the barest hint of a pulse in the fourth quarter to have any kind of CFP hope at all, Alabama finally got on the board with a heavily penalty-enhanced drive that ended with Germie Bernard shaking off most of the Georgia defense for a 23-yard touchdown that was, legitimately, aided by a referee.
I think we would call that a non sequitur.
No one ever said FSU shouldn't make it BECAUSE they won their conference.
If the argument is "The conference championships really shouldn't impact playoff selection beyond automatic bids", then this guy is disproving his own point.
They were penalized after the conference championship game bc the backup QB looked like ****. So the conference championship impacted their playoff selection despite winning and the “paid shills” argued for that to occur. Now they’re saying don’t penalize Bama for losing today even though they also looked very bad and lost. If FSU can win their conference championship and have their playoff resume impacted negatively, then surely Alabama can have theirs negatively impacted in a loss. The precedent has already been set. Yea something needs to be done. James Madison and Tulane are not 2 of the best 12 teams in the country. If you want to reward them, have them schedule better out of conference competition, win those games, and be ranked high enough to get an at-large bid.JMO, but Ohio State should drop to 4. Indiana at 1, Georgia at 2, and Texas Tech at 3. Georgia and Texas Tech won their last games, Ohio State did not.
4-8 should be Oregon, Ole Miss, TAMU, and Oklahoma in some order.
9-12 should be Notre Dame, Miami, Tulane, and James Madison.
At 3 losses, Bama should justifiably be out. They have a bad loss to FSU and were blown out in the CG. If they get in, it's politics, not earned. The only teams that have a real argument over Miami are Vandy and possibly Utah, also both with just 2 losses. Again, this is all jmo, but 3 losses should put you out.
And, FTR, I think automatic qualifiers are stupid. Tulane and James Madison are only in because of it. They shouldn't be.
I also think the ACC should fix their conference. Stop with divisions and just have the two best teams play for the conference championship. It should have been Miami and UVA. Duke winning was fun, but they didn't deserve the spot to begin with IMO.
There are a lot of simple things that could be done to help fix the whole playoff mess, but politics prevent that from happening. Politics, IMO, are hurting the game.
