Tip #1: Keep telling yourself thatTech hasn't run the flexbone in years.
ByeMSN
The coaching carousel went into a full-blown spin cycle on Sunday with five SEC schools announcing new head coaches. One of those final answers was Tulane’s Jon Sumrall heading to Florida after the Gators missed out on Lane Kiffin.
The next step for all of these programs will be filling out a full staff, which obviously could impact Tennessee. Alex Golesh, now at Auburn, has plenty of obvious ties to this staff. Defensive line coach Rodney Garner is an Auburn alum and is currently on an expiring contract, for example.
Another name popped up on Monday morning though, one that would be a pretty big surprise. Pete Nakos named Tennessee offensive coordinator Joey Halzle as a name to know in Sumrall’s search.
Thoughts?
It's still not the flexbone and not even remotely close.Tip #1: Keep telling yourself that
Tip #2: Get a 260 pound quarterback
I watched a bit of GT vs Georgia the last two years. Both times, the quarterback had the most carries. Check the stats.
In 2024 game, GT quarterback had over 20 carries and was like a human battering ram. An awesome performance.
I didn't call it a flexbone. Jokingly, I called it a wishbone. It's still not the flexbone and not even remotely close.
Everyone wanted Kiffin, lot of butthurt when we pivoted to coach Sumrall. He's won almost everyone over in a week or so. Of course saying all the right things and DOING all the right things aren't mutually exclusive, but we're pretty much uniformly on board at this point. What's the consensus on the Sumerall hire in Gatorland? It pains me to say but I believe yall got a helluva coach.
