OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

That’s the way it has always been in the playoff era. It’s never been the 4 or 12 best teams. It’s whoever they deem worthy. Unfortunately with the way the format is worded, it prevents the 12 best teams from getting in before a discussion can even occur. So the committee can always use that as a crutch to say “well this is the format and we have to leave someone out due to the automatic qualifiers”.

Automatic qualifiers should go away entirely, switch to using the BCS for the rankings and whatever the top 16 teams are get an invite. It shouldn’t matter if you win a conference championship. The BCS wasn’t a big problem, it’s that you only allowed 2 teams to play for a national championship whenever there are well over 100 division 1 football programs. The math just never added up.

Now I've got SunBelt Billy to the North of me...

With Franklin to the South...

I think both coaches will actually do well at their respective places. Those aren’t the pressure cookers that Penn State and Florida are so I think they will be coaching a lot more freely.

Saying "If I'm Tennessee, I'm cutting ties" doesn't persuade me from this guy.
If you are unable to sign without a parent or guardian’s consent because you are still a minor, it may be better to wait until you reach the age of majority rather than signing during the early signing period. Waiting a few weeks allows you to make a fully independent decision and commit to the school you truly want to attend. The program you choose will reserve your spot, and you will avoid taking an opportunity from another athlete who genuinely wants to sign with the school you might otherwise commit to prematurely.
