It's so good to be a winner on signing day.

I remember that one year We were projected to get quite a few players and ended up being trolled-highlighted by the Florida wide receiver, I think his name was Copeland, throwing the Tennessee hat ,while his angry mother walked away in disgust, as she was wearing a Tennessee hat.

It it is fun for us to have the player throwing the hat.

I don’t necessarily like Franklin but I don’t see an issue with what he did.

Yes, as of now he’s only in 4th place all time.

Here’s a bit of perspective on that. He’s .6 of a percentage point out of second (77.9 to 77.3).

The small amount you refer to are during his freshman and sophomore years. Short kicks? Literally half of his attempts this year were 40+ yards. Last year 12 of his 26 attempts were 40+. So roughly half of all attempts were 40+. That’s not a small amount.

Our career leader in fg % is Campbell (78.3)…based on a single season as a senior. I’m sure those extra years of growth and experience had no affect. Oh, and he was 3 of 8 from 40+ and his longest fg was 49 yards. There’s a small amount.

Second is Walls at 77.9%. That percentage is based on 4 years.

Third is McGrath at 77.8%. His numbers were based on only his jr and sr years. He was 8 of 14 at 40+ with 1 over 50, that was 51 yards.

Gilbert is next at 77.3%, again based on his fr and soph years. He is 13 of 21 at 40+ with almost half of those 50+ and he’s hit 5 at 50+.

Gilbert compares very favorably to our best, and no he’s not bad by any measure beyond 40. (I don’t even know what that means since there’s only one measure that counts). And he’s only a sophomore.

No kicker is perfect, (except maybe that dude from Oklahoma.) They’ve all missed big kicks or what some would say cost us a game.

Don't be coming in here with facts. It's simply NFL bias has given everybody unreasonable expectations. Plus the real question is who are you gonna replace him with that is better. There is no easy button. Poor kid has been given way more blame than he deserves this year.

I think dabo is going thru what Fulmer did. The sum off the parts of that staff when they were great is what made them great. I think that's true for both coaches.

Neither have been, or were, able to recreate that.

And I think both benefited from their respective conferences not being super deep, though the SEC of the 90s was a lot better that the acc of the 2010s, the SEC back then it's nothing like it's been the last 15 years.

28th ranked class last year!

2024 ranked 15th.

2023 14th
2022 14th

And Dabo wasn’t using the portal at all until last offseason. Still didn’t do much in it.

When I saw it as a teen I thought it was slow. Watched again years later and understood the hype. The first two films are worth your time if you can watch in 4K as Deniro is in the 2nd.

Here’s to hoping that today we build on all of the momentum from our signing class yesterday, and have some major staff shake ups to coach these young men!

Going on record that our next DC is Knowles. No inside info…just a hunch based on him not already announced to be following Franklin. And there’s no way he’s staying at PSU with how much of a debacle it is up there.

Not sure where CJH’s head is on our defensive woes this year. X’s and O’s vs Jimmy’s and Joe’s. He is there every day. The late push on the defensive side this class might be a clue.

I am especially intrigued by the comments of a late pickup, Carter I think it was, when he said the deciding factor for him was coaching stability. That does not support CRG departure or the DC being run. Portal target mix and budget will be interesting too.

I will ride with Coach’s analysis and staffing plan. He has the best knowledge base and the most skin in the game and I bet detailed contingency plans. But do expect our less informed, overly invested agenda driven to cover their positions with their typical redundancy. Numbers don’t lie, but root cause analysis of those facts from the stands and couch has inherent flaws.

I suspect Coach will attempt to back up his commitments to staff, squad and prospects, whatever those are. I bet DW has influence on any moves as well taking into account fans and donors collective thought processes, not the fringe elements on either end.

We had our best recruiting day in years, had a Bama commit throw a Bama hat and pick Tennessee, pissed off Ohio State fans bc of a Legend. If Moa had stayed committed, we would have been top 5 in the nation. We also had a couple more late flips/commits.

He use to be the master at getting a few elite players and almost everyone else becoming a solid player no matter the ranking. Those days seem to be long gone though. When he first started growing Clemson, He didn’t have top ten classes but when we reranked they would be top 5.
