The more I think about this new recruiting landscape it kinda makes me wonder if we actually wouldn't be better off signing a class of affordable 3-4 star guys with potential and passing on the high dollar 5 star types. Then put the real money into the portal for more known, proven and mature talent.

Yeah, I'm being captain obvious here, but I catch myself complaining about getting a bunch of 3 star kids when it actually makes more sense in today's game to do just that.
I think that model would work, but only if we had a coaching staff that was good at player development. I'm not convinced that this would be an accurate description of some of our assistants.

Until the number of 4* commits greatly outnumbers the 3* commits, we will continue to struggle with the UGA's and Bama's of the world. Sadly, I guess we gotta add Vandy to that list. And yeah I know all the 3* players with 5* hearts mumbo jumbo but I've been watching our 3* backers and secondary try to chase down RB's and WR's long enough to know speed matters. A lot of times, that little bit of extra speed is what separates the 3* and 4* players. Looks like we're off to a pretty good start though!
True to a certain extent. However, good coaching and development can turn most 3's into really good players. That is where we have failed the last couple of years, especially on defense. Hopefully the defensive fiasco we have witnessed will force changes to the staff that will show improved results on the field.

Coaching generally looks better when better athletes are on the field.

By that metric we're doing well vs any SEC team not named Georgia. They're blowing everyone away with the 4 and 5 star guys

I would like us to do a better job of coaching up the 5 and 4 star players before we worry about th 3s. Will Brooks was a hell of a defender and a walk on.

TBH I don't give a sh!t about players once they leave UT. I don't mean to sound insensitive but all I care about is how they play at UT and Will was a beast when he was here.

after all, Is Tim Tebow playing on Sundays now? I guess he wasn't coached very well?
A lot more varieties of QB's in college than there are LB's. If you have elite speed and tackling abilities in college, you will get a chance to do it on Sundays. Will was a good player, im not knocking him, just saying at some point we need great players across the board.

I agree esp. on defense. I just want less Boo Carters and more Will Brooks. I want the guys that want it.
