'26 TN QB Jared Curtis (Vanderbilt commit)

I mean, would I rather vandy NOT land a 5 star QB? Sure.

But does this make me afraid of Vandy going forward? No. This is an anomaly. He's a nashville kid who Tennesseee never prioritized because we preferred Fazion over him. He may turn out to be great, but the bust rate is pretty high these days with 5 star guys.

Vandy is electric now because Pavia has a unique skill set and what can only be referred to as moxie. Not all QB's have that.

Curtis wants to play as a true freshman which and most portal QB's are going to shy away from going to Vandy knowing they have Curtis waiting in the wings.

On the one hand, you could argue this move hurts Vandys momentum in the future. Now, this is in no way me advocating for them to NOT sign a 5 star QB. I'm just saying, they're having the year they're having because they have a senior laden team with a uniquely effective veteran QB whos' been int he same offense since 2009, give or take. 98% of true freshman QB's struggle. So in 2026, you'll be bringing in a freshman to play Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee, AT Florida, AT Georgia, plus NC State, Arkansas, miss state, and at kensucky.

Gonna be hard to continue the momentum of a 10-2 season if you follow it up with 7-5 or worse.
I think this is a good observation. Without Curtis, Vanderbilt probably persuades an experienced 4th or 5th year QB to come in. Instead, they are going to hand the keys to a true freshman who is making a massive leap in competition level and facing much different defensive complexity than he faced at Nash Chr competition level. It is risky on their part. But they feel like they need to for the "image" they gain by flipping a 5-star from UGA. They will almost certainly be worse next season with him than they would have been without him. But maybe it works out for them long term.

Driving yourself to Middle School games
Friend of mine brags about his HS baseball prowess as he was 19 his whole senior year. I remind him he was pitching to kids who couldn’t even drive yet while I was a soph in college at 19 attending a campus Yo MTV raps event with Ed Lover followed by a night at the Underground.

I graduated at 17. Can’t imagine being a soph in college at 19 and playing football against 15 and 16 yr olds.
I was a Freshman at Tennessee when I was 17. Enrolled. In the College of Engineering, Chemical Engineering. I went to grammar and high school in Rogersville and found I was as well prepared for college as those who attended private and military schools. I was surprised that a school in a small rural Appalachian could have prepared its student that well. Apparently their school system is still very good because, a couple of years ago, the National Teacher of the Award was presented to a teacher in the Rogersville‘s School system. Proud of the schools in my old home town.

Hawkins County!!!

It’s prevalent across sports. Just be aware you may change your tune a little one day if your son is 140 lb 15 yr old with a learners permit on the field coming head to head with a soon to be 20 yr old who’s been voting a couple years.
Better one, your daughter is a 14 yo freshman getting hit on at school by a 19-20yo senior who should be a college sophomore.

Kid turns 19 in like 2 weeks. And he doesn't exactly play elite competition. I am not saying he isn't talented, but how we ever got an elite 5 star ranking is really bizarre.
