UT NIL Football Commitment

Don’t look now, but don’t be surprised if Texas Tech is in the top 3-4 next year. A billionaire supposedly donated millions to the NIL fund there to pay whatever it takes for every athletic team there. They bought a new softball team last year and almost won it all.

This is all unbelievable. How do you keep 18-23 year olds from becoming complacent (and therefore not performing or having a desire too) after you give them more money that most of their parents have earned in the previous year - in some cases their lifetimes?

Some will have the "eye of the tiger", but I suspect many will not.

Is there any serious talk about there being a cap? $10-$15 mil maybe?
The House Settlement capped the "school paid" NIL at $20.5M and created a "clearinghouse" to approve other NIL deals.

It was quite the stir and talk for about 2 weeks, then business as usual returned.

The NCAA won't be regulating NIL with any teeth at all because the NCAA won't be regulating ANYTHING with teeth anymore.

No one actually knows. Just rumors. A lot of the "valuations" are based on public donations to the University which can be tracked. NIL funding is nearly impossible to track.

We know that Spyre is considered one of the best collectives in the country. That's about all we know.

Spyre sure has not been able to bring in a top three running back in the fold.

Spyre certainly *was* when NIL first started popping up - is it still though?

247 listed Spyre as the #10 NIL at $15mil annual funding before the CSC approval requirements hit this year. That's behind Texas, OSU, LSU, UGA, A&M, Michigan, Alabama, Florida and Clemson. However, TBF, the gap between us and Bama (who is #7) is less than 1mil.
