Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

My final take from the season finale upon reflection:

1) Give Inge another season. I gave him a hard time yesterday, but the talent in the LB room is getting better. Let’s see what that unit look like with another year of development and go from there.

2) Revise the offense to not lean so heavily on just counting the number of guys in the box. Vandy exposed the flaw in that ideology. More teams will take the same approach going forward. We grew schematically from 2024 to this season. That growth has to continue.

3) Move on from Tim Banks as soon as our commitments become signees. I’m on the fence with Martinez, but Banks cannot be retained under any circumstance. The number of times he called plays that took guys out of position to make a play this season was unacceptable. Change is necessary. If Heupel won’t do it, DW must do it for him.

4) Allocate more money to grabbing some studs in the portal and less money to retaining experienced guys who aren’t difference makers. If a guy like Farooq or Telander asks for more NIL money (just using them as an example, no inside info at all), let them walk. They aren’t bad players, but are they guys who can help you get back to the playoff? I don’t see them as that caliber of player. Divert those funds to getting studs who can get you to the playoff.

5) Get the QB position set for 2026. That starts with deciding if you want Joey Aguilar for another season and, if so, what are you willing to pay him? Also have to gauge the likelihood of him actually getting another season. If you’re moving on from him and/or feel that he isn’t likely to get another season, go ahead and have that conversation with him and decide if you’re going to ride with GMac & Faizon and just bring in a depth piece or if you want a proven guy from the portal. I don’t claim to know the right answer to this one, but I do know you can’t have average quarterback play and have a successful 2026 season. Heupel has to get this one right.
Vandy didn't expose anything. Matthews catches that ball, and it's a different ball game. We moved the ball well all night. If defense wasn't so awful, that's a game we win with relative ease.

Zach is clickbait. We don't know whether it's Heup or Joey because Heup doesn't want us to know. There were rumors Golesh called plays not Heupel. Neither has ever said to this day which it was.
I'll go to my grave believing it was Golesh. One of the networks did a piece on him and the playbook he had in the booth. It was eye opening because our offense was fast paced and they talked about him being 5 plays out from the current play.

Don't be shocked if Penn State hires DeBoer after Georgia **** kicks them in the SEC title game.

There is a reason so many staffers are leaving for lateral money jobs...
I was thinking the same thing! It’s way too quiet from Penn state. I think they have someone pretty big and they are waiting to announce.

If the SEC the biggest fat cat conference doesn’t go to be transparent like the ACC on reviews they need and deserve all the criticism they get. It will be obvious they are corrupt and don’t even care. No way in Haiti they can’t do the same thing. In fact all teams should get a number of challenges each half. I hope fans call and urge the sec office to do better and become more transparent or expect to hear the wrath!!!! GBO

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Vandy played way better defensively vs Mizzu. We didn't have a single TO all game. Vandy got the stops they needed to in the 2nd half. Props to them for that. But we moved the ball on them all game. If Matthews catches that TD pass to start the 4th Q, who knows happens. But afte that, we were playing catch up and Vandy had all the momentum.
They crowded the line all game with 7-8 men on the line. They either blitzes or bailed and kept doing it over and over. They have not done that all year. They hid that for us.

Our defense couldn’t stop them all game except for turnovers. They held us to 382 total yards. I wouldn’t say we moved the ball all game. We had plenty of three and outs. And we scored theee points in the second half. Three. They circled that game with new looks and straight up beat our a**

Rumor is LSU has opened the checkbook for Kiffin to go crazy in the portal.
CJH and DW need to be on this path, 5-8-9 difference makers on both sides of the ball. If you’re NIL number is $20+ million then half or more needs to spend in porthole.
DB/S-2-3
DL-3
LB-2
RB-1?
OL-2?
My 2 cents. I’m available for GM role if needed😎

its kind of an obvious stat that we didn't beat anyone with a winning record.

4 teams we lost to - 3 in the playoffs & 1 on the fringe

the other 8 teams were OOC or SEC teams that fired their coaches

and we are like 2 plays away from being 10-2 as well,,,just saying
Also 2 plays away from being 6-6. It's a fine line.

Here is what I think happened BRUCE: I think Golesh called plays every time we looked good and it was Josh Heupel when we looked bad. I also think that last year it was clearly all Josh Heupel and this year it was Joey Halzle until the last two games when Josh got jealous everyone thought it was Joey and yanked them back. I also think Joey should be fired and that no one else in the SEC would even want him as an OC. I'm a little insane, Bruce. Sort of like you. I know where the bodies are, Bruce.

Also a few plays away from 6-6. We ended where we should have at 8-4 for this team.
